International Compliance

International Risk and Academic Security (IRAS)

International Risk and Academic Security (IRAS) is the office which supports Curtin University in understanding and managing Foreign Risk across research, education, collaboration, international engagements and the University Community. Foreign Risk at Curtin is about understanding our international activities and ensuring they are carried out according to the law, with transparency and on equitable terms.

IRAS provides Foreign Risk assessments, mitigation strategies and tailored advice to help staff and researchers engage confidently, responsibly and securely with international partners, while meeting regulatory obligations and upholding Curtin’s values.

By engaging with IRAS, staff can ensure compliance with legislation, protect research integrity and reputation and reduce risks that could affect student wellbeing, publication opportunities, commercialisation prospects or future funding. Curtin’s approach in countering foreign interference is country-agnostic, which means that no specific country is targeted. We focus on raising awareness of, and building resilience to, foreign interference regardless of its source.
