Curtin Rising Scholar Program

The Rising Scholar Program (RSP) offers high ability students a tertiary learning experience at Curtin University while still in high school, allowing them to earn University credit.  Students will engage with staff and students through one of the available delivery modes of the University (on-campus, blended learning, or online). The program will consider outstanding Year 10, 11 or 12 students for admission into one unit per semester, and students may complete up to 4 units over the course of the program.

Who is eligible to participate?

• High achieving students in years 10 – 12 who attend an approved RSP partner school. Please email us to see if your school is an approved partner.
• Students can engage with a maximum of 4 units during this time, with no more than 1 unit to be taken per study period.
• Students must demonstrate a B grade average on their most recent school report.
• Some units require an A grade average – These will be clearly marked on the list of unit offerings.
• Students must be nominated by their respective school and provide a signed declaration form and copy of their most recent school report as part of the e-Application process. 
• Applications will be accepted via e-Application – Link and forms to be communicated with school representatives before applications open.

Benefits of participation

• Students will be immersed in a genuine Curtin learning experience. Each student will have the opportunity to engage with university level content, study with world-class academics, and interact with the Curtin community.
• Students will have access to a range of facilities on campus including computer labs, Curtin retail outlets, specialised learning areas and a range of lecture/collaborative venues.
• Students will be given a student ID card that identifies them as a Curtin University student.  This card grants access to a range of areas on campus and awards Guild discounts at a range of retail outlets and food providers.
• Students will receive a Curtin certificate of completion, pending a pass grade, which may also contribute to CRL (Credit of Recognised Learning) if a student engages in an undergraduate degree at Curtin after school.
• Students can take up to a max of 4 units between years 10 and 12. Students can take any combination of units from the same or different learning areas, as desired.
• Students will be awarded a RSP merchandise pack to support them on their learning journey.  This will be offered to participating students, free of charge, and will be distributed at the Orientation Event.

Courses

Unit offerings change each semester – Confirmed offerings from Business & Law, Humanities, Health Sciences and Science & Engineering will be communicated with partner schools before applications open each semester. Please speak with your RSP school representative, or your nominating teacher to request a copy of this list.

Key dates – Semester 2 2024

• Applications for Semester 2 2024 – Open – Wednesday 8th May 2024 for new and returning students.
• Applications for Semester 2 2024 – Close – Wednesday 5th June 2024 for new and returning students – The closing date is final, and no late applications will be accepted.
• Orientation Event – Wednesday 10 July 2024. Successful applicants will receive further information via email.
• Semester 2 studies commence Monday 22 July 2024.
