What are my study load options?

UPDATED 01 DEC 2023 | 4:48AM

Depending on your course, you can choose to:

Study full-time Full-time study involves enrolling in units totalling 100 credit points (usually 4 units each semester/trimester), which means around 30 hours overall work time per week. For most students, the workload is divided between lectures, tutorials, workshops, laboratories, fieldwork, work placements and individual study. Your timetable and the required study hours may vary from day to day.

Study part-time Part-time students will be enrolled in 25 or 50 credit points (usually 1 or 2 units per semester). Please note that this will extend the duration of your course. You can also change your load each semester, for example, studying part-time in one semester, then full-time in the second. Please be aware, not all courses are offered part-time however this can be determined by referring to the course handbook. Please note that for if you are on a Student Visa, you are required to maintain enrolment in 100 credits each semester. If you need to take a reduced study load, you will first need to request approval by submitting an application to reduce your study load. Study online Curtin also offers a range of courses fully online. You can also study some Curtin courses online through Open Universities Australia. Please note: although some courses indicate they are ‘fully online’, you may be required to attend campus for practical tasks, such as exams.
