What does an academic status of 'Conditional' mean?

UPDATED 20 APR 2026 | 3:33AM

Conditional status is one of 3 academic statuses on your academic record.

Your academic status can be set to Conditional if you have met one or more of the following criteria in the study period just ended:

  1. Failed more than 50% or more of your units;
  2. Study Period Weighted Average (SWA) of below 50%; and/or
  3. Failed a core unit.

Your School's Board of Examiners will determine if you are placed on Conditional status, and you will be notified via Official Communication. This process is designed to allow you to reflect on your academic performance and prompts you to engage with the variety of support services available to you. Note that if you are an international student studying in Australia on a subclass 500 visa, you may have additional obligations. Contact Curtin Connect for more information.

Please note that if you have changed course, and were on Conditional status in your previous course, you may start your new course on Conditional status.
