How do I order my course preferences in my application as international student?

UPDATED 21 AUG 2026 | 3:00AM

When applying to Curtin, you can select up to five course preferences per application, ordered from 1 to 5. It is recommended that you select more than one course preference, particularly if your first choice is a competitive entry course.

Your preferences are considered in the order you rank them. An offer will first be assessed for your highest-ranked preference. If you do not meet the entry requirements or there are no places available, your next preference will be considered in order.

Please note: You can only have one active application per course preference at any given time. If you have already applied for a course, you cannot submit another active application for the same course and same intake.

If you would like your next course preference to be considered, you must request this in writing via webform. We will then deactivate your first preference and prioritise your nominated preference for assessment.

If you want to be assessed for a course that is not listed as one of your 5 course preferences, you will need to lodge a new application via the applicant portal.

How to order your preferences

Offers are made based on both your preference order and your eligibility, so it is important to rank your courses carefully. Only include courses you would be willing to accept.

  • Check the entry requirements for each course to ensure you are eligible.
  • Select your most preferred course as Preference 1.
  • Rank your remaining course choices as Preferences 2–5.
  • If you are applying for a competitive course, consider including non-competitive courses as alternative preferences.

Once you have submitted your application, you can view your application details and course preferences in the Attachments section by selecting ApplicationForm.pdf.
