As a current student, how do I extend my student visa (subclass 500)?

UPDATED 13 OCT 2025 | 2:07AM

To extend your existing student visa (subclass 500) as a current student, you will need an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) to support your visa application, which you require to apply directly to the Department of Home Affairs.

If your student visa expires before your course completion date, you will need to request for a new eCoE closer to the visa expiration date. You can then apply for a new student visa with the Department of Home Affairs in order to continue your current course of study.

There are certain requirements that must be met before your eCoE can be produced. Please refer to the Online Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) application guidelines and ensure you have met all the requirements before requesting your new eCoE.

To request a new CoE online for visa extension purposes:

  1. Log into OASIS
  2. Click on the My Studies tab
  3. In the quick forms Channel, click on Request for Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) [International Students Only]

Once you have your eCoE you will need to apply for your new student visa online at the Department of Home Affairs website. You will need to log into your immiAccount to start the online application.

Please note that the following students are not able to request their eCoE online.

  • Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students – contact the Student Advisor – International Student Visas at iovisa@curtin.edu.au to seek advice on how to obtain a eCoE.
  • Students changing to a new course – you will received a new CoE from Global Curtin after you have formally accepted your new offer and met all conditions/requirements outlined on your letter of offer including deposit payment and Overseas Student Health Cover.
