What is the difference between EndNote and EndNote Online?

UPDATED 11 NOV 2025 | 5:41AM

EndNote Online is a web-based version of the EndNote software. If you have the desktop version of EndNote it allows you to synchronise (sync) your references and access your library on multiple computers. It also enables you to share your references with other EndNote users.

If you do not have access to the EndNote software download, EndNote Online can be used as an alternative to collect, organise, store and share references online, and create citations and reference lists in Microsoft Word.

See the EndNote Essentials (for desktop) and EndNote Online guides for more information.
