How is my course weighted average (CWA) calculated?

Your Course Weighted Average (CWA) is the weighted average percentage mark for applicable units within your course.
Your CWA is calculated using the following formula:
CWA = Sum (Unit Credits × Mark) / Sum (Unit Credits)
The mark for each applicable unit is multiplied by the credit weighting of the unit, and these amounts are added together and divided by the total applicable unit credits.
Your CWA includes:
- grade/mark units, including units you have failed;
- grade/mark units credited towards your course as Automatic Credit or Designated Credit;
- marks, if any, for units with an F-IN (Fail – Incomplete/Insufficient Assessment) result; and
- a mark of zero for grade/mark units with an ANN (Result Annulled due to Academic Misconduct) result.
Your CWA does not include:
- Pass/Fail units or units allocated an ungraded pass;
- units recorded as WD (Withdrawal); or
- units with an interim grade.
Example

Multiply the unit credits by the unit mark:
12.5 × 57 = 712.525 × 60 = 150025 × 63 = 157525 × 67 = 1675
Then calculate:
(712.5 + 1500 + 1575 + 1675) / (12.5 + 25 + 25 + 25)
= 5462.5 / 87.5
= 62.43
The weighted average in this example is 62.43. The March 2026 procedure uses these same figures in Schedule 2.
