Understanding co-occurring eating disorders and posttraumatic stress disorders

The project

A PhD student at Curtin University is doing research to better understand how eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are connected when they occur together. The study looks at shared psychological processes that may play a role in both conditions. This research aims to find out whether focusing on and changing these common processes can help reduce symptoms of both eating disorders and PTSD.

The researchers would like to involve two Consumer Researchers who have lived experience of an eating disorder, PTSD, or both conditions. Consumer Researchers may:

Skills and experience

The researchers are looking for people who are 18 years or older and have lived experience of an eating disorder, PTSD, or both conditions. You do not need to have had formal diagnosis – this opportunity is also open to individuals who self-identify as having experienced either condition in the past. We are looking for people who feel comfortable working on a project that has capacity to raise strong feelings.

Previous experience in a research advisory role is desirable but not necessary.

Consumers can be located anywhere within Australia.

Other information

Two one-hour meetings will be held over the remainder of the year, plus preparation time to read over materials. After that, meetings will continue approximately four times per year, each lasting one hour (plus preparation time), over the next two years.

Meetings will be held online via Microsoft Teams.

An honorarium of $37.50/hour is provided. Training and support are offered by Curtin Involve.
