Curtin Accounting Clinic
The Curtin Accounting Clinic is a new practice-based learning initiative from Curtin University’s Faculty of Business and Law. It connects final-year Accounting students with small businesses, not-for-profits, and community organisations to offer free, practical accounting support.
Delivered under the supervision of qualified academics and industry mentors, the clinic enables students to apply their learning in a real-world setting while offering meaningful assistance to those who may not have ready access to professional services.
How the Accounting Clinic can help
The Accounting Clinic can assist with a range of business accounting needs, including:
- Bookkeeping and reconciliations

Who delivers the service?
Services are provided by final-year Accounting students undertaking a for-credit Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placement. Each student works closely with experienced Curtin academic staff and industry professionals to ensure the delivery of accurate, ethical, and professional advice.

- Suitability for a student-led project
- The scale and complexity of your tech needs
- Availability within the academic calendar
- Capacity of student teams and supervisors
Application Process

If your matter is urgent, please indicate this in your enquiry and a supervisor will contact you as soon as possible.
Step 1: Review
Once your application is received, it will be reviewed by our academic staff in consultation with a student consulting team.
We will assess:
- The nature and scope of your request
- Whether it aligns with the Clinic’s learning objectives
- Our current capacity to assist
You will be notified of the outcome of the review. If your application is successful, we will invite you to attend an initial consultation (in person or online).
Step 2: Initial Consultation and Assessment
The initial meeting will involve a member of staff and student consultants discussing your needs in detail.
At the conclusion of the meeting, we will:
- Confirm whether we are able to proceed; or
- Provide alternative recommendations or referrals where appropriate.
All services are delivered as part of a supervised educational program and are subject to capacity and academic scheduling.

The Accounting Clinic gives final-year accounting students the chance to step out of the classroom and into real world client work. You’ll collaborate in small teams to solve genuine accounting and financial challenges for individuals, small businesses, and community organisations, guided by academics and industry mentors. Across the semester, you’ll strengthen your technical skills, develop professional judgement, and build confidence working with clients. It’s hands-on, practical, and an opportunity to apply your skills in a setting that feels both supportive and professional.
What students do
- Meet with real clients to understand their financial and business needs
- Assist with preparing and reviewing financial information, including basic accounts and records
- Conduct research to identify appropriate accounting treatments and compliance requirements
- Analyse financial data to provide practical insights and recommendations
- Assist clients in improving their record-keeping and financial management practices
- Communicate financial information clearly to clients in a professional and accessible way
- Work in small teams to develop and deliver client solutions
- Receive support from supervisors and mentors
- Present findings and recommendations in a professional setting
- Build practical and relevant real-world skills that employers expect from graduates.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be on Good Standing with a minimum CWA of 65
- Have adequate space on your study plan to receive credit
- Enrolled in either an undergraduate or postgraduate Marketing or Advertising Degree
- Have completed a minimum of 300 credits if you are an undergraduate student or 100 credits if you are a postgraduate student

- Submit an Expression of Interest for the Accounting Clinic
- The Team will check if you are eligible for a clinic placement
- If you are eligible, you will need to provide the latest copy of your resume, a short video, and complete 6 Curtin Challenge Modules
