Health care experiences of older people living with multiple chronic conditions in regional WA
The project
Many older adults in rural areas live with multiple chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and mental health conditions (known as multi-morbidity). Managing care for these long-term multiple conditions can be challenging in regional WA due to long distances, limited access to primary and specialist healthcare, and little community- based support for self-management. These challenges can lead to mental and financial stress, poorer health and more unplanned hospitalisations.
Researchers at Curtin want to improve the patient care experience and wellbeing of older people living with long-term multiple conditions.
The involvement opportunity
Researchers at Curtin are interested in hearing from people with lived experience of long-term multiple conditions (such as heart disease, diabetes, and mental health) and their carers to inform research to address unmet care and support needs and reduce barriers to accessing care.
They would like to form a group of ~4 people with lived experience to inform a proposal for research funding.
Skills and experience
You need to:
- Be an older person (65+) with lived experience of multiple long-term conditions (such as heart disease, diabetes, and mental health conditions), or care for someone with multiple long-term conditions, and;
- Live in the Great Southern or South West regions of WA
Other information
You will be required to attend 1-2 online meetings (~1 hour each) in late February, and then review a proposal for research funding (~2 hours). Should the proposal be successful, there may be the opportunity to continue to be involved in the project.
