Completing your uni journey comes with its own set of challenges, and for students with disabilities, whether physical or mental, these challenges can sometimes feel overwhelming.

We’ve put together some essential resources to help you succeed throughout your studies if you live with a disability or are a carer.

Learn about our AccessAbility Services

If you live with a disability, physical or mental health condition that affects your studies, or if you have a significant caring role for a person with a disability, you have access to a range of support through Curtin’s AccessAbility Service. AccessAbility is here to help you manage your studies, organise alternative exam requirements, offering mobility assistance and lots more.

Apply for a Curtin Access Plan

For personalised support, consider applying for a Curtin Access Plan (CAP)! A CAP is a document that outlines the reasonable adjustments recommended for a student with a disability, physical or mental health condition or a carer of a person with disability to enable equitable access to their studies and assessments.

Whether you have a diagnosed disability, are experiencing a temporary disability, or are fulfilling significant caregiving responsibilities, you could be eligible for a CAP to assist with your studies.

Get specialist mentoring support

For students with autism or related conditions, the Curtin Specialist Mentoring Program (CSMP) offers specialised peer support. CSMP is one of the first and largest peer support mentoring programs in Australia for neurodiverse students that aims to provide tailored assistance.

CSMP also provides a weekly social group CSG, run by the mentees during semester to help develop friendships and discuss relevant issues.

Connect with the Student Guild’s Accessibility Department

Connecting with the Guild’s Accessibility Department is a great way to connect with the wider neurodiverse student community and get access to additional support and representation. The Accessibility Officer is here to ensure that all students have equal access to their university education. You can get in touch with the team at accessibility@guild.curtin.edu.au, or stay updated through their Instagram page.

Get to know accessible parking and routes around campus

Understanding the accessible routes around campus is crucial for a smooth experience. Get to know the campus access and inclusion routes using our map, which can help you identify accessible facilities and plan your routes around campus accordingly.

For information about accessible parking spots on campus, head to our website.
