Western Australian health professionals and students will benefit from a new state-of-the-art wound clinical education centre planned for Curtin University’s Bentley campus.
Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon announced $380,000 in funding for the joint project, to be led by Silver Chain Nursing Association in conjunction with Curtin’s Health Sciences and WoundsWest.
The new centre will provide undergraduate and postgraduate students from Perth and remote WA with hands-on training in wound management procedures. It will also provide vocational training for aged care staff, general practitioners, registered nurses and indigenous health workers.
Professor Phillip Della, Head of Curtin’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, said the centre will offer cutting edge technology to students.
‘The dedicated centre will contain a wound simulation ward, which will include the latest diagnostic and treatment technology and custom made real-life acute and chronic latex wounds and simulation models.
‘It will house a computer resource laboratory, which will facilitate student access to WoundsWest’s interactive online Education Program and other online programs developed at Curtin.’
The funding for the centre is part of the Australian Government’s reform to the health and hospital system.
