Advanced Commerce (Honours)
Learn alongside the next generation of business leaders and researchers. Our Advanced Commerce (Honours) degree combines our three-year Bachelor of Commerce with our one-year Honours program, creating a holistic study journey available to high-achieving students.
Course structure
Year 1
You’ll begin by studying a suite of core units in business. You'll explore value-creation in business, learn to use financial information to make informed and responsible decisions, and develop business intelligence and analytical capabilities to interpret data. This will provide you with a strong base to build on as you progress through the course. You'll also choose your preferred discipline/s, and begin study in this area.
Year 2
In your second year, you'll continue to develop expertise in your chosen discipline/s. You’ll further develop your decision-making and leadership skills, which are essential in a future marketplace. You’ll also benefit from exposure to industry through field trips, work-related tasks, guest lectures and industry projects.
Year 3
In your final year you’ll undertake a capstone experience, enabling you to apply your skills in an industry environment.
Work-integrated learning
Real-world learning is an important component of this degree. Depending on your chosen major, you might gain hands-on skills in industry software such as LSEG Workspace for stock market trading and analysis, or TalkWalker for social media marketing and management.

Step B: Complement your major
You'll select one of three options:
Option 1: A second major
With this option you benefit from studying two disciplines in equal depth and graduating with a double major. You can choose a second Commerce major, or one of the following majors from the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Creative Arts:

Option 2: Two specialisations
A specialisation contains half the number of units as a major. Specialisations enable you to broaden your degree by studying two complementary disciplines alongside your business major.

Note: This option is not available if you choose Business Information Systems Extension as your first major. If you choose Accounting or Property Development and Valuation Extension as your first major, you will have the option of studying one specialisation.
Option 3: Elective units
Choose eight elective units from any area, provided you meet the unit prerequisites. You could also study one business specialisation and four elective units.
Note: Options will be limited if you choose Accounting, Business Information Systems Extension or Property Development and Valuation Extension as your first major. These majors may have elective units within the structure that could be used to gain a specialisation.
Step C: Choose your capstone experience
In your final year, you will also undertake a capstone experience to further your practical skills and international business knowledge.
You’ll have a choice of several capstone experiences:
Business and Law International Experience: Through this capstone experience, you can progress your studies while travelling by studying a short course with one of our global exchange partners. You’ll immerse yourself in a different culture, expand your knowledge, make lifelong memories and build your global perspective.
Business Clinic: This is your chance to become a real-world business consultant, working directly with individuals, small organisations and startups to solve challenges and optimise for opportunities. Through hands-on experience in the clinic, you will develop your understanding of key business concepts, problem-solving techniques and ethical decision-making. You’ll gain valuable insights into the modern business world and the confidence to navigate its complexities once you graduate.
Business Engagement: Gain hands-on experience in this immersive internship program in Bangalore, India. You will apply business skills and knowledge to real industry challenges through classroom learning, cultural visits, and internship projects. This experience will broaden your global perspective, build your professional network, and prepare you for a dynamic international career.
Business Internship: Guided by an academic advisor and an industry professional, you’ll be immersed in the day-to-day operations of your host organisation. This capstone experience is a chance to develop your business skills, enhance your career readiness, build your professional network, and nurture your personal and professional growth.
Business Study Tour or International Business Project: In this capstone experience, you’ll apply what you’ve learned in real-world settings around the globe. Through site visits, guest lectures and team projects, you'll connect with industry leaders, gain fresh perspectives and tackle real business challenges – all with the guidance of our academic staff.
Enhancing Your Business Mind: In this capstone experience, you’ll apply your entrepreneurial skills, business ideas and critical thinking to a real workplace, improving your employability and equipping you with skills to succeed after university.

Choose your application pathway
I’m in year 12 or applying for Medicine
If you’re in year 12 or recently finished high school, you’ll need to apply through TISC.
You’ll apply through TISC no matter what you studied in high school, whether that was:
- ATAR
- General subjects
- Certificate IV
- or completing UniReady in Schools program.
TISC has different application dates to Curtin. Visit the TISC website for all important dates, including application deadlines.
I have finished high school
If you’re not a current year 12 student or recent graduate, you’re considered a non school leaver and you’ll apply directly to Curtin.
The only exception is Medicine, which must be applied for through TISC.
You’ll apply directly to Curtin if you are:
- a high school graduate who finished school last year or earlier
- transferring from another university
- returning to study or using your professional experience to qualify
- progressing from a VET or TAFE qualification or bridging program
- a current Curtin student changing courses or campuses.
