Spring is officially here so why not use this season to elevate your fitness routine? With the cold, gloomy days now (mostly) behind us, it’s time to reset, soak up some sunshine and prioritise exercise.

Studies have long shown that exercise benefits our mood, productivity, energy levels and, of course, our physical health. So, here are four workout ideas that will boost your energy levels and have you say goodbye to those winter blues.

Try a morning workout

During winter, most people find it tough to get out of bed in the morning for their everyday commitments. It can be especially tough to choose to get up for a workout before the sun has even risen. This may lead to you not having enough time to fit in a workout when you’ve got a jam-packed afternoon of social plans, study, or work.

Luckily, the spring season means lighter mornings which makes it easier to avoid snoozing that alarm.

If you are usually someone who exercises in the morning, then you’ll know that it sets you up for a productive day and leaves more time for relaxation in the evening. If you want to start incorporating a workout into your morning routine, then give it a go! Now is the time.

Go for a long walk

If you love going on long walks outdoors, then you will understand the frustration of back-to-back rainy days putting a damper on getting some steps outside.

Unless you’re someone who braves the cold, wet weather then it’s likely you’ve missed the benefits of those long nature walks during winter. Luckily, spring means longer days and more time to enjoy exercising outdoors.

There’s something so therapeutic and energising about walking. It’s the perfect time to clear your head and listen to your favourite playlist or podcast while enjoying the fresh air. Or perhaps you’re someone who loves going on long walks while catching up with a loved one. Either way, it’s time to lace up your sneakers and soak up the sunshine!

Get into strength training

With warm weather on the horizon, it’s time to get your motivation back and set some new fitness and training goals.

Whether you want to tone up your physique, build some muscle, hit some personal bests, or just be more consistent with the gym again, strength training is a surefire way to achieve any of these goals.

Strength training has a vast range of scientifically proven benefits for your mental and physical wellbeing. This form of exercise is also incredibly empowering as you’ll likely notice yourself getting stronger over time. So, if you’re up for setting yourself a challenge and achieving some new goals then it’s time to lift your training game.

Try a group fitness class

Spring is the perfect time to try something new. If you haven’t tried group fitness classes before and are curious about it, then give it a go!

The main reasons people enjoy group fitness are the sense of community that comes with it and being motivated by like-minded people. Group fitness is also a great form of exercise for those who aren’t confident in the gym and want guided workouts to simply follow.

The group fitness classes at the Curtin Stadium Fitness Centre vary in timeslots and workouts which means there is something for just about anyone. Whether you’re interested in classes that will get your heart rate up, your muscles burning, or lower impact classes like yoga or Body Balance, you’re sure to find a class you enjoy.

And there you have it. Elevate your fitness routine this Spring to ensure you get some movement in each day – whatever that looks like for you.
