As part of Curtin’s ongoing commitment to strengthening cyber security and reducing phishing emails, we are implementing some important changes to third-party applications that send emails on behalf of Curtin.
These updates will ensure that only authorised systems can send emails on Curtin’s behalf, reducing the risk of phishing attacks.
A new email security control called DMARC (Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) will be enforced for all third-party applications that send emails on behalf of Curtin.
These updates do not affect standard Curtin student email accounts and emails sent using Microsoft Outlook or similar email clients. The changes apply only to third-party applications such as marketing platforms or booking services like Campaign Monitor or Eventbrite.
In some cases, email forwarding rules may not work for emails received from third-party platforms sent on behalf of Curtin. When this happens, the sender will receive a failure notification, but the intended recipient who set up the forwarding rule will not be notified.
No action is required if you send emails via Outlook or a similar email client.
If you use a third-party email provider or software, you may wish to verify emails are being delivered correctly after the updates have been applied.
Send an email using the third-party provider/software.
Open your email client and navigate to the sent Items folder.
If the email appears in the sent items folder, this confirms it has been successfully sent. No further action is required.
If the email does not appear in the sent items folder, confirm the email was correctly composed, sent from the intended account and no error messages or delivery failure notifications were received.
