Meet Tiffany, an inspiring environmental policy master student who is committed to making a difference in the fight against climate change. Tiffany’s interest in environmental policy was sparked at a young age. Since then, she has dedicated herself to acquiring the knowledge necessary to effect meaningful change. Her experience with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Scholarship and the Global Voices non-profit organisation inspired her to pursue further studies in environmental policy, as she witnessed the lack of urgency and action in governance regarding climate change.
Her passion for the environment grew from a series of small experiences, from growing up in Australia surrounded by nature, to seeing the impacts of air pollution during a visit to China. Despite feeling discouraged by the lack of negotiation and effort towards finding solutions for climate change, Tiffany believes it is crucial to keep pushing for change, as there are tangible things we can do to make a difference.
Tiffany’s drive to make a meaningful contribution to the field led her to pursue a Master of Environmental Policy, to ensure that the facts she shares with others are accurate “in a world where misinformation and disinformation are rampant.”
During her studies, Tiffany had the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, such as joining Curtin Volunteers!, a group she describes as family. Through her involvement, Tiffany explored her interest in environmental projects, which she found to be a captivating way to learn more about the topic. She encourages others to join clubs and groups, and to explore different interests early on.
Tiffany is grateful to have studied at Curtin, which “allows students to easily change courses and explore different interests”. When balancing university life with work and other responsibilities, Tiffany believes being realistic with your time and energy is key. Focusing on your priorities and caring of yourself by eating well, going to the gym, and getting enough sleep is essential.
Tiffany’s hard work and dedication to her studies paid off when she was awarded the highly prestigious and competitive Australian Fulbright Postgraduate scholarship, which provides recipients with a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and collaboration. The scholarship offers financial support and access to a community of like-minded scholars pursuing ambitious goals. Tiffany is incredibly thankful for the opportunity and believes the scholarship will help her achieve her career aspirations in climate communications.
Tiffany’s journey is a shining example of what can be achieved through perseverance and unwavering passion. Through hard work and determination, creating change is possible if you set your mind to it.
