It challenges the idea that only environmental scientists can fight this global challenge – it requires everyone within society to take responsibility and work towards change.

Growing up in singara (beautiful) Chennai in India, rainy days were always my favourite kind of day.

The smell of the earth as rain clouds approached, and the calming sight of coconut trees dancing in the wind are some of my most cherished memories.

Sadly, in 2015, a flood shattered my home town and took with it a piece of my fondest childhood memory.

Climate change is no longer seen as a political issue, and the longstanding argument about whether or not it’s real is no longer a debate.

With a shift in the global economy, policy is finally catching up and there is a very different atmosphere, metaphorically, in terms of companies willing to show leadership in this space.

The penny has definitely dropped, and governments are now looking towards industries of the future, such as clean energy.

Planet Positive Program

The sector-leading program will comprise of:

  • The qualification: an undergraduate certificate or specialisation made up of four units including the Sustainability Challenge
  • The learning community: extra-curricular activities including field trips, forums, industry engagement opportunities, and fun, which will connect students with each other and industry
  • The scholarship: students can apply for a scholarship to help with the extra costs associated with the program. Each scholarship is $6,000, with $5,000 going towards unit fees and $1,000 towards the costs of the learning community.
