Digitisation of the Melanesian Film Archive

Over 500 rare 16mm films that make up the Melanesian Film Archive have now been digitised in conjunction with the Digitisation Centre of Western Australia.

The project, which commenced in late 2021, has taken several years so far and has contributed to the long-term preservation of the films. Once inaccessible to their format and location, these digitised films are once again shareable for research and study. Additional projects will follow this work. In addition to the films, there are over 200 audio reels in the Archive suitable for digitisation.
