New Curtin program offers Year 12 students ‘real world’ exposure

Exceptional Year 12 students will have the opportunity to make a head start towards their commerce degrees thanks to a new Curtin Business School program.

The 12 week Marketing Experience Program, commencing in 2009, offers students the opportunity to participate in an industry-based program and gain an understanding of marketing principles.

Professor Ram Ramaseshan, Head of Curtin’s School of Marketing, said the program provided an opportunity for high school students to gain first-hand experience of university life.

“The students will apply practical skills to complete a real-life industry-based case study and network with industry professionals,” he said.

“The program will increase the students’ abilities to work cooperatively in a team, think critically and develop their analytical skills. It will also allow students to complete a unit of their Curtin degree while still in secondary school.”

Taught by university academics, it comprises of a weekly three hour evening seminar.

To be eligible for the program students must have at least a ‘B’ average in Year 11 English and must possess the maturity and self discipline to flourish within an academically challenging environment.
