Japanese earthquake

The earthquake that occurred on Friday afternoon off the northeast cost of Japan, and resulting tsunami, has caused significant damage and many casualties.

Up to date information on affected areas and local conditions can be found on the Australian Government SmartTraveller website.

If you are concerned about friends and relatives in the affected areas, you should in the first instance try to contact them directly. If this is unsuccessful, you can contact the Australian Government 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre on +61 2 6261 3305 (from overseas) or 1300 555 135 (within Australia).

The Student Wellbeing Service is available to assist Japanese student affected by this event and wishing to speak to someone.

The Hotline number 1800 244 043 is operational during office hours, 8.30am – 4.45pm, Monday to Friday.
