Curtin students are invited to take part in a series of research workshops exploring how audio description (AD) is currently used in Australia and how it could be improved in the future across education, media, and the arts.
These workshops are part of an ARC-funded research project, Diversifying Audio Description in the Australian Digital Landscape. The project brings together the perspectives of people who use audio description, as well as those who have been directly involved in developing or creating AD in Australia.
With the increasing role of AI in media accessibility, this research is an important opportunity for participants to help guide how audio description evolves in the Australian media and arts sector.
Workshop details
One in-person workshop will be held on campus with the following details:
Date: Tuesday 4 March
Time: 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm
Location: Building 209, Room 227CT
The research team will also be hosting an online workshop. Participants are encouraged to let the team know which day and time would be most convenient for them.
Each workshop will run for no longer than 90 minutes, and participants will receive reimbursement for their time.
About the research
These workshops form part of a broader national study examining the history, current use, and future potential of audio description in Australia. The findings will contribute to the development of best practice guidelines for the creation and delivery of high-quality audio description across multiple contexts and media.
The project is being conducted by Curtin University in Perth and is led by Professor Mike Kent, Professor Tama Leaver, Professor Katie Ellis, and Dr Kathryn Locke.
