Specialised Exercise Programs

If you have a health condition, have risk factors for health conditions, or just want to get healthier and require some support getting started with exercise, you can enjoy exercising with others in the safe and supportive environment within our Exercise Clinic at the Curtin Health and Wellness Centre.  The benefits of regular exercise and physical activity are hard to ignore. Everyone benefits from exercise, regardless of age, gender, or physical ability.

The Exercise Clinic at the Curtin Health and Wellness Centre is a student-led service providing exercise services to both clinical and healthy populations – this is open to staff, students, and anyone from the community.

Clinical services include:

  • Cardiovascular and respiratory conditions
  • Musculoskeletal conditions
  • Metabolic and renal conditions
  • Neurological conditions
  • Mental health disorders
  • Cancer

Healthy services include:

  • Improve health, fitness, and wellbeing
  • Improve performance, strength, and conditioning

What is involved?

Services are provided by Curtin Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology students and Curtin Exercise and Sport Science students. Exercise programs are individualised to each client and based on the latest evidence and are regularly reviewed and updated. Each client is given a 6-week program, with an initial assessment and twice weekly one-on-one sessions with one of our amazing students (under supervision of an Accredited Exercise Physiologist). Each session has a duration of approximately 60mins.

Cost: 6-week program = $50
Includes: Initial assessment, 2 x weekly 60min exercise sessions

Additional Programs: Life Now

Curtin Health and Wellness Centre is a proud provider of the Cancer Council WA Life Now Exercise program.  Are you or someone you care about affected by cancer?  The Cancer Council WA Life Now Program offers a free supportive cancer care course.

Regular exercise can help to:

  • Reduce fatigue
  • Manage nausea
  • Manage pain
  • Improve strength
  • Improve quality of life
  • Maintain muscle mass
  • Improve bone mineral density
  • Prevent weight gain
  • Improve sleeping patterns
  • Improve physical function

Exercise is a recommended part of treatment and recovery. Life Now Exercise is for people currently undergoing treatment or who have completed cancer treatment in the last two years. Primary carers are welcome to attend with the cancer patient.

Life Now Exercise is a 12‑week course, facilitated by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and tailormade for people affected by cancer. Participants receive an individualised program and experience the benefits in a safe and supportive group environment.

Cost:
Initial assessment = $30
12-week program = sponsored by Cancer Council

Breast Cancer Rehabilitation (Pink Crusaders)

The Pink Crusaders program is for women undergoing or recovering from breast cancer treatment. It provides guided exercise to assist with rehabilitation, in a supportive environment. Your accredited exercise physiologist will develop an exercise plan to address your individual needs.

Who can participate?

The Pink Crusaders is designed for women who are undergoing or have completed breast cancer treatment.

A one-on-one consult before joining the program will make sure the program is right for you. This is a 60-minute appointment which involves a health screening and an assessment. You will need to bring a written clearance for participation in the rehabilitation program from your oncologist or GP.

What is involved?

Group sessions run for 60 minutes. We keep sessions small to allow you to get the most out of the class.

Parking information

Parking is available in areas PF2 and PF3.

Please provide your car registration to Reception on arrival and you will be granted temporary free parking for the duration of your session.

Please see information above for the fees of each program

Please note: Our fees are already discounted and there is no additional discount for concession card holders. We are unable to provide any Medicare, DVA, compensation claims or private health rebates as student services are not eligible for claiming. Payment for the program is required by Eftpos on the day of the initial assessment. Payments can also be made through our online payment platform, Curtin e-Pay.
