Outline

The BSc (Financial Mathematics) course is designed to provide graduates with a broad range of analytical and mathematical skills, with particular relevance to statistical modelling and operations research, in the financial context. Students will receive a strong grounding in mathematics, statistics, corporate finance, financial institution, financial markets, and various branches of the financial services industry, enhancing the employment prospects of graduates in the technological, industrial, and financial sectors.

What you'll learn

  • Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding in Financial Mathematics that is typically at a level that, whilst supported by learning resources, includes some aspects that will be informed by knowledge of the forefront of Financial Mathematics
  • Can apply mathematical and statistical methods to critically analyse problems in finance and to think creatively to generate innovative solutions
  • Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously using digital technologies
  • Can gather and interpret relevant data within Financial Mathematics to inform judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific, or ethical issues, including being aware of the diversity of international perspectives associated with Financial Mathematics, and how these impact upon the practice of Financial Mathematics
  • Understand and appreciate cultural diversity and how it impacts on the practice of Financial Mathematics in the financial services industry
  • Display a high standard of professional behaviour, including effective time management, both independently and as a team member
