Graduation documents
All official graduation documentation will be issued digitally. A hard copy of the Award Certificate will also be provided.
To receive your Award Certificate, you must respond to your graduation invitation and follow the online graduation registration process.
A fee will be charged for the production of official graduation documentation that
remains uncollected after a period of one or more years.
It is your responsibility to maintain up-to-date contact details with Curtin and ensure you continue to read your Official Communications after course completion and up to the time of receiving your award certificate.
A graduation invitation will be sent by Progression, Assessment and Awards Office
staff via the Official Communication Channel (OCC) to eligible students.
A Graduand is a student who has completed the requirements of the course and is awaiting conferral of their award by the Council.
A graduand will not obtain their award certificate until conferral has occurred.
A Letter Confirming Course Completion is an official document issued by the Academic Registrar stating that all academic requirements for the course have been met by the student.
The letter may be purchased by a course completed student after the published result release date. To find out about ordering documents refer to official student documents.
A Letter to Confirm Graduation is a document is produced on official Curtin letterhead to aid in obtaining visas for international students wishing to remain in Australia, or return to Australia, in order to attend a Curtin graduation ceremony once they have completed their course.
A Curtin Award Certificate (also known as a testamur) is the official University certificate bearing the Curtin Graduation Seal conferred by Council, which confirms completion of an award course of study.
Curtin University will issue one original award certificate.
The award certificate includes:
- full legal name of graduate at time of conferral
- award title
- award level (if applicable)
- award number
- signatures of the chancellor and vice-chancellor
- date of conferral by University Council
You must register to receive their complimentary award certificate. To receive your award certificate, you must respond to your graduation invitation and follow the online graduation registration process.
Failure to register to receive your award within 12 months may result in an archival fee.
Digital Testamur
A digital testamur will be provided to all students who have registered to graduate during or after January 2019 a month after each conferral.
Collaborative Awards
All collaborative awards will bear the following notation under the “Course Code and Title”. “The program of study for this degree was undertaken in association with [insert institution/s]”
An Academic Transcript is the official University record of a student’s results and is printed on official University transcript paper.
The following information is included on the Academic Transcript:
- Student name, address and Student ID number
- Date of Issue
- Course code and title
- Grade and mark achieved for each unit (or “Pass/Fail” for any unit classified as a
“Pass/Fail” unit) - Total credits accrued
- Course Weighted Average
- Academic Status
- Major and minor/specialisation
and where applicable: - The Completion Date and Conferral Date
- The Award Number
- Details of Credit for Recognised Learning
- Details of Automatic and Designated Credit
- Notation that the student has been granted an Award with Distinction
- Notation that the student has been granted an Award with Honours and the level obtained
- Notation that the student has been included on the Vice-Chancellor’s List (including year and study period)
- Notation of language of instruction if any parts of the course of study or units of study or assessment were conducted in a language other than English
- The student’s thesis statement
- The reverse of the Academic Transcript will include details of the University Grading System and such other explanatory information
Digital Transcript
A digital transcript will be provided to all students who have registered to graduate during or after January 2019 a month after each conferral.
In all other circumstances, Academic Transcripts will be purchased by students by visiting Official student documents webpage.
Sanctions or Outstanding Debt
Any student with a sanction preventing access to results or who has outstanding debt to the University is not entitled to receive an Academic Transcript.
Recording of Cross Institutional (Outbound) Enrolments
Any approved cross institutional enrolment of a Curtin student at an external institution will be recorded on the Curtin Academic Transcript as a generic Cross Institutional enrolment (i.e. not by individual unit title) and with a Pass/Fail grade irrespective of the grading system used at the external institution.
Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (graduation statement) is a document provided by Australian higher education institutions to graduation students on completion of the requirements for a particular higher education award.
It provides a description of the nature, level, context, and status of studies that were pursued by the individual named. Its purpose is to assist in both national and international recognition of Australian qualifications and to promote international mobility and professional recognition of graduates.
Curtin students who have their award conferred (on or after 10 November 2010) will receive an Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (Graduation Statement).
The Graduation Statement includes:
- details of the course leading to the award
- further information about the course
- the award
- the institution
- Australian Higher Education system
- approved special achievements* of the graduate.
* Special achievements include:
- Member of the Vice-Chancellor’s List
- Chancellor’s Commendation (Exceptional Higher Degree by Research Thesis)
- Higher Degree by Research Scholarships
- Merit based scholarships awarded as part of a competitive process and administered by the Curtin University Scholarships Office.
Digital AHEGS
A digital AHEGS will be provided to all students who have registered to graduate during or after January 2019 a month after each conferral.
Digital AHEGS are not available for graduates who were conferred prior to 11 January 2019.
In all other circumstances, AHEGS will be purchased by students by visiting Official student documents webpage.
Curtin Extra Certificate is an official document of recognition for students who have made significant contributions to co-curricular programs.
Participation in these programs contribute to a student’s personal and professional development. The Certificate includes your participation in approved programs, including the program name, tier, stream and the applicable year(s), and will be provided to you upon graduation.
The Curtin Extra Certificate includes:
- outline of participation in approved Curtin co-curricular programs
- signature of the Academic Registrar, Curtin University.
Digital Curtin Extra
A digital Curtin Extra Certificate will be sent out separately via My eQuals a month after your graduation conferral.
A Replacement Award refers to the issue of a new award certificate replacing the original award certificate in instances such as theft, damage or misplacement of the original award for an approved fee.
Approval for Replacement Awards is actioned by University Council once a month (usually the first Friday of each month).
The Graduation Seal will be affixed to all replacement award certificates with the notation
“Replacing Original Award dated DD Month YYYY”.
Lost, Stolen or Destroyed Award Certificate
Graduates applying for a replacement award certificate will provide an original statutory declaration, duly authorised, stating that the award certificate has been lost, stolen or destroyed.
If the original award certificate is subsequently recovered, it will be returned to the
University. A fee will be charged for a Replacement Award Certificate.
Non-Receipt of Award Certificate
Where a student states that they have never received their award certificate but University records show that it was correctly sent, a duly authorised statutory declaration stating that the award certificate has never been received, will be provided.
Where the request is lodged 12 months or more after conferral of the award, a fee will be charged for a replacement award certificate.
Damaged Award Certificates
A replacement award certificate may be issued where the original is damaged. A fee will be charged for a replacement award certificate. The damaged original will be returned to and destroyed by the Progression, Assessment and Awards Office.

A prescribed fee will be charged for the production of official graduation documentation that remains uncollected by a student after a period of one or more years.

An Intermediate Award is an approved exit point from typically a higher level award course. It recognises completion of units that make up the requirements of an approved award course where the student has completed these units as part of another course (referred to in this document as the “Principal Award”).
Students are not required to withdraw from the Principal Award to receive an Intermediate Award.
An Exit Award is an approved exit point from a higher level award course that may be available to students unable to fulfil the requirements of that higher level award course in which they are enrolled but who have completed the requirements of a designated exit award.
Exit Awards will only be granted to students who have discontinued enrolment in the Principal Award.
Where a Principal Award provides for the granting of an approved Intermediate and Exit Award/s, details will be published in the University Courses Handbook.
Application and decision
An application for an Intermediate or Exit Award will be submitted by the student to the Head of School/Area on the form prescribed by the Academic Registrar, no later than 12 months following the conclusion of studies within that program. Applications received after this date may be considered if there are exceptional circumstances that prevented an earlier application.
The Head of School/Area (or nominee) will approve applications for Intermediate or Exit Awards, where the student:
- has completed all course requirements for the relevant Intermediate or Exit Award;
- has completed one third, or the final year (whichever is less) of the relevant Intermediate or Exit Award course via Curtin-provided units, inclusive of any credit for recognised learning from units undertaken at Curtin. Any exception to the one-third requirement will follow the requirements of the Credit Limitations Procedure, Credit for Recognised Learning Procedures;
- is not enrolled in a Double degree (refer to Degree by Incorporation Procedure, Admissions and Enrolment Policy and Procedures);
- has no sanction for misconduct or outstanding debt to the University; and
- has not completed the requirements of the Principal Award.
The Academic Registrar (or nominee), may determine the necessity to grant an Intermediate or Exit Award to a student where:
- For an Exit Award, the student has experienced or is experiencing extenuating
circumstances that prevent them from continuing enrolment in the Principal award (which
has been verified by the Head of School/Area (or nominee)); or - For an Exit Award the student is in good academic standing but is unable to complete the
requirements from the Principal award due to the student’s inability to meet the
professional practice requirements or is unable to maintain the required course weighted
average (CWA); or - it is determined that the granting of the Intermediate or Exit Award is in the best interests
of the student.
Students will be notified of the outcome of their application to grant an Intermediate or Exit Award within 20 working days of the decision via the Official Communications Channel (OCC).
The Progression, Assessment and Awards Office will be responsible for processing approved requests and submitting awards for conferral by the University Council.
A fee, as prescribed by the Council, will be payable for the conferral of all Exit Awards and Intermediate Awards.

A True Copy of Award Certificate is a legal document which bears the notation “True Copy” with the award number and original conferral date and will bear the Curtin true copy seal. You may only have one award certificate for each completed course.
True copies are not available for awards granted prior to 2000 or for VTEC awards.
All students are required to have a current OASIS login and password to apply for a True Copy of Award. If you cannot remember your details, you can reset your password on OASIS.

My eQuals is an online platform which has been developed by universities within Australia and New Zealand to issue secure digital records to students and graduates.
My eQuals allows students/graduates to provide employers and third parties anytime, anywhere access to certified degrees and transcripts.
This platform also allows Curtin to confirm digital qualifications of prospective students from China, Europe and America who are seeking admission into our courses.
It takes about a month after each conferral for us to send all complimentary digital graduation documents: Award Certificate, Academic Transcript and Graduation Statement to preferred mailing address in eStudent.
- Academic transcript – If you had an enrolment and results recorded on or after 1 January 2000, you will be able to purchase official digital academic documents.
- Graduation documents – If you have your award conferred on or after 11 January 2019 and register for graduation by the deadline you will also receive official digital academic documents via My eQuals
At this time digital graduation documents are not available for graduates who were conferred prior to 11 January 2019.
Frequently asked questions
Once final results have been released, you will be able to view them via My Results tab in eStudent. The official results publication date for each study period can be found on the Academic Calendar.
You can navigate to the My Results tab using the steps below:
- Log into OASIS.
- Click on the My Studies tab.
- Click on the eStudent box.
- Click on the My Results tab.
- Click view next to your current course if necessary.
If you are studying via Open Universities Australia (OUA), you can also obtain your results via the OUA Student Hub. Two types of academic statements are available:
- A Record of results lists results for all units taken through OUA, including failed and withdrawn units.
- A Statement of attainment lists only passed units.

The University grading system is a useful resource for understanding your results.
Yes. A framing service is available for graduation ceremonies held in Perth, Kalgoorlie and Singapore immediately after the ceremony. Please see GFP Graduations for details.
It is recommended two colour photocopies of your award are produced and certified prior to framing for future use.
Graduates who achieve a course weighted average equal to or greater than 80.00 will be considered to have achieved outstanding performance in their course and will be granted an award with distinction upon completion of their degree.
Your award will automatically be updated if you are eligible for an award with distinction.
The Graduation Statement is an official document provided to graduates by the awarding institution in addition to their award certificate. It contains the details below:
- Course, award, the institution and the Australian Higher Education system information, and
- List of approved special achievements of the graduate (i.e. official scholarships and prizes) if applicable.
Curtin introduced the Graduation Statement for students who were conferred after 1 November 2010. Graduates who completed their studies prior to 1 November 2010 will not be eligible to receive a Graduation Statement. The design of the Curtin Graduation Statement is based on nationally agreed specifications approved by the Department of Education and Training.

An Intermediate Award is an approved exit point from a higher-level award coursework course. It recognises the completion of units that make up the requirements of a lower level approved course completed as part of a higher-level course. For example; if you have enrolled in and completed 100 credit points in a masters course, you may be eligible to apply for a Graduate Certificate. Intermediate awards are not available for all courses. Students are not required to withdraw from their Principal Award to receive an Intermediate Award.
An Exit Award is an approved exit point from an award course where students are unable to fulfil the requirements of that award course. The exit award may offered where students have completed the requirements of another lower level qualification. Students must withdraw from the principal course to take out an exit award. Additionally if an award course has been discontinued, students may be able to apply for an Exit Award.

Post nominals are the approved abbreviation of your award. Once your award has been conferred, you can use the post nominal after your name. The Awards and Graduation Manual provides details on how post nominals can be used.
