As exam time approaches it is normal to feel overwhelmed and anxious. At a critical time in your studies each semester, it is important to ensure you have healthy habits and stress relievers to get you through.
There are significant links between stress management and doing exercise and moving your body. This can be linked to exercise releasing endorphins also known as a “runners high.”
But of course, you do not have to actually run to achieve this (though it is a great option if that’s what you like!). Any level of regular exercise has benefits, such as improving your mood, helping you to relax, achieving better sleep, and improving your self-confidence.
Exercise acts as a stress reliever not only for its meditative qualities, but also by imitating stress and forcing the body to work through it. It teaches systems within the body such as the cardiovascular, digestive, and immune systems how to deal with heightened stress levels.
Moving your body as a way to combat your stress this exam period is not only about extensive sport or cardio. Exercise is all about doing what makes you comfortable and feel good.
At Curtin, there are a range of programs and facilities available to find the exercise that works for you.
No matter your level of physicality, preference for sport or how often you work out, you can incorporate exercise into your exam prep this semester. Remember to not push yourself too hard and work within your individual capabilities.
