This Makuru season, John Curtin Gallery returns with an engaging set of creative arts workshops designed for children aged 8 to 14 years. Held in the Gallery’s safe, inclusive and creative environment, children from across Perth can explore art-making techniques with professional artists. Join us as we create art, explore culture, and build creative confidence to help express amazing ideas.
Our qualified team of facilitators and gallery staff will ensure support for children in a structured and well-supervised setting. School Holiday workshops are open to children of all abilities and no prior skills are required. All JCG programs are inclusive, accessible and convenient for diverse learners.
Materials will be provided for each workshop, and sessions will include worksheets, visual material and fun interactive activities.
Kindly note, due to the popularity of JCG’s School Holiday Programs we recommend early registration to secure your preferred days.

Photo Montaging
Discover the magic of visual storytelling, without the need to draw! Inspired by James Taylor and Carrolup Stories, this is a journey in self-expression.
With the help of John Curtin Gallery’s talented art educator explore the world of visual storytelling through Photomontage. A creative technique which uses composite images, disparate photographs, pre-made images and found material, to take viewers on a visually stunning journey. This interesting technique is inspired by James Taylor’s powerful exhibition of photographic landscapes and cultural objects “Turrangka… in the shadows’.
Led by the Gallery’s Education Coordinator Neeti Sethi, this unique experience invites children to undertake a journey of personal expression and have fun observing art while crafting their own special story. This creative exploration is not only inspired by the art they see, but the environment, personal narratives and Carrolup stories.Material is provided, but participants are encouraged to bring up to two old photographs to add to their story.
