Indigenous Australian Engineering School

The Indigenous Australian Engineering School (IAES) is a week-long residential camp introducing students to engineering studies and careers. Students will do site visits, meet industry representatives and participate in educational activities. The program targets Indigenous students in Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 with an interest and aptitude towards engineering, science and mathematics.

Students will have an experience they will never forget, make connections with industry engineers for the future and forge relationships with other like-minded students from across Australia to become part of the IAES community.

The camp is free with all travel, meals and accommodation provided. The Indigenous Australian Engineering School (IAES) is an annual event hosted in Perth by Curtin’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, on behalf of Engineering Aid Australia. Students are supervised by Indigenous university students.

If you are selected to attend the IAES, you will also qualify for an Engineering Aid Australia Continuing School scholarship. This is to help with some of your education expenses in year 10, 11, and 12. Later, if get a place at any university in Australia in an engineering or related degree, you will be eligible for an Engineering Aid Australia Tertiary Education scholarship.

Mining and the Lands

Mining and the Lands is a five-day residential camp for WA Indigenous high school girls to experience what it’s like to study and work in the mining industry in WA. Students tour operational mine sites in the Southwest where they will meet mining industry leaders, and visit Curtin University to participate in hands-on workshops and meet lecturers and students. The program targets female students in Year 9, 10, 11 and 12.

The camp is free with all travel, meals and accommodation provided thanks to the support of Anglo Gold Ashanti and Curtin University. The next camp will be running in April 2025.
