A major is a set of eight units focused on a single area of study. Majors help you build advanced knowledge and skills in one field.

In your first semester, you will select a major that aligns with your career goals, from these options:

Select one of these three options:

Option A: A second major

When you choose to study two majors, you’ll build specialist knowledge in two disciplines and graduate with what’s called a ‘double major’.

You can choose a second business major from the list in Step 1, or broaden your education with a major from the arts:

Notes:

• Option A is not available with Business Information Systems Extension or Property Development and Valuation Extension.
• Some double major combinations can only be studied as a set combination and cannot be combined with additional study options.
• If Accounting is your first major, you can choose Audit Analytics, Business Law, Finance or Taxation as your second major.

Option B: Two specialisations

A specialisation is a set of four units focused on a single area of study. Choosing to study specialisations gives you the flexibility to learn more about two additional fields that interest you. 

Choose one of these combinations:

• two business specialisations
• one business specialisation and a specialisation from select areas in arts, design or science.

Notes:

• Option B is not available if Business Information Systems Extension is your first major.
• If you choose Accounting, or Property Development and Valuation Extension as your first major, you can study one specialisation only.

Option C: Eight electives

Electives are units you can select from across the University, provided you meet any prerequisites. They allow you to explore other study areas, broaden your skills and try something new.

Choose eight elective units from any study area or choose one business specialisation and four elective units.

Note: Choices are limited if your first major is Accounting, Business Information Systems Extension, or Property Development and Valuation Extension. (These majors may have elective units within the structure that could be used to gain a specialisation.)

In your final year, you’ll complete a practical learning unit, also known as a capstone experience unit, put your knowledge into practice and finish off your studies.

This course includes the following capstone experience unit.

• Enhancing Your Business Mind: Use your entrepreneurial skills, business ideas and critical thinking to solve real workplace challenges. You’ll build employability skills and prepare for life after university.

Alternatively, you may be able to study the capstone experience units below, which provide different real-world opportunities.

• Business Clinic: Apply your business knowledge, ethical decision-making and problem-solving skills to a consulting environment, working directly with individuals, small organisations and start-ups. You’ll grow confidence in your skills by responding to real business challenges.
• Business Engagement: Broaden your global perspective and build your professional network through an immersive international internship program. You’ll analyse contemporary business issues using industry and academic insights to develop critical and creative solutions.
• Business Internship: Apply your analytical thinking and professional skills in a real workplace by contributing to industry projects and activities, helping you build career readiness and confidence. You’ll be supported by an academic adviser and an industry professional, with opportunities to expand your professional network.
• Business and Law International Experience: Broaden your perspective, build your intercultural capacity and continue your studies overseas by studying a short course with one of our global exchange partners.
• Business Study Tour or International Business Project: Immerse yourself in local or international industry settings through site visits, guest lectures and team projects. With the guidance of our academic staff, you’ll develop your leadership, problem-solving and global industry skills.

Note: Capstone eligibility and availability may vary based on academic performance, room in your study plan and any applicable travel restrictions. This does not apply to Enhancing Your Business Mind.
