Indonesia is one of the most dynamic countries in Southeast Asia.

It’s also one of Australia’s closest neighbours.

For Curtin students interested in communication, media and creative industries, understanding Indonesia’s culture, language and media landscape can open doors to future career opportunities.

That’s exactly what the Indonesia Study Tour 2026 is designed to explore.

Learn the language through immersion

Students begin the tour in Surabaya, studying Indonesian at Universitas Airlangga while practising the language in everyday life across the city.

Learning the language through immersion helps students develop real communication skills that go beyond the classroom.

Experience culture across Java

Indonesia’s culture is rich, diverse and deeply connected to storytelling and creative traditions.

During the tour, students will explore sites across Java, learning about history, narrative and cultural practices that continue to influence the region today.

This includes visiting important cultural locations such as Borobudur and Prambanan temples, where students explore storytelling traditions and cultural heritage.

Connect with the media industry

The tour then moves to Jakarta, Indonesia’s media capital.

Here, students visit leading media organisations and collaborate with Indonesian students to develop communication projects and creative ideas.

It’s a rare opportunity to experience the region’s creative industries up close.
