Want to gain hands-on experience, build industry connections and help shape a more sustainable future for Western Australia?
Students from Curtin, UWA, Murdoch and ECU are invited to take part in a collaborative 1.5-day sustainability intensive focused on tackling some of the biggest challenges facing WA’s mining industry.
Held at Curtin’s Bentley Campus, the immersive event will bring together students, mentors, industry professionals and academic experts to explore how the mining sector can continue to support economic growth while creating positive social and environmental outcomes for future generations.
Participants will work together to respond to the following challenge:
How can the mining industry support sustainable development and growth in WA which provides social, economic and environmental benefits for the region and ensures that natural resources and ecosystems remain available and healthy for future generations?
The WA mining industry contributes approximately $150 billion to the economy, while also consuming around 42 per cent of the state’s water supply and 35 per cent of its diesel usage. The event will encourage students to think critically about sustainability, innovation and the future of regional communities connected to the industry.
Along the way, students will have the opportunity to:
- Learn from industry professionals and academic experts
- Connect with like-minded students and mentors
- Gain practical experience in sustainable development
- Develop valuable career-ready skills and networks
The event is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, with every participant receiving a certificate of participation.
The winning team will also receive an invitation to attend the Annual UNAAWA Gala.
