For Noshin, switching careers wasn’t part of the original plan. After several years working in finance and corporate roles, she realised she wanted something more dynamic, something that blended her business background with the rapidly evolving world of technology. That decision eventually led her to studying a Master of Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics.
Originally from Bangladesh, Noshin’s journey to Curtin wasn’t without its challenges. Moving to Perth meant adjusting to a new culture, education system and lifestyle all at once. At first, it was hard to start over, as she came from a very structured corporate environment. Adapting to a new country and academic life took time, but she found everyone in Perth to be very supportive, making the change easier.
That support came not only from her lecturers but also from her classmates and the broader uni community. She quickly found herself connecting with other international students who shared similar stories of change and ambition.
“Curtin really celebrates diversity. I’ve met people from all over the world who are passionate about technology and data. That’s been so inspiring because we all bring different perspectives to solving problems.”
Noshin always loved problem solving. In her previous job she was analysing financial data, but wanted to go deeper, to understand how data and AI could actually drive decisions and shape the future of business.
Throughout her studies, Noshin has developed a strong interest in machine learning, predictive analytics and automation, particularly how these tools can improve business operations and sustainability. She’s also enjoyed the hands-on learning approach, which encourages students to apply theory to real-world scenarios.
“Everything we learn is connected to what’s happening in industry. We’re not just learning the software, we’re learning how to think critically, how to interpret data and how to communicate insights clearly. Those are skills that employers really value.”
Outside of her coursework, Noshin has taken part in professional development workshops and networking events that have helped her better understand Australia’s job market and build confidence in presenting herself to employers. She also spends her time getting involved with as much as she can on campus, including Students as Partners and the GROW Project. She’s also been a part of the Skills for Success program, multiple Guild Clubs and was in the winning team of the Design Jam organised by Curtin Social Impact Hub.
“I’ve learned that balance is so important.”
When she first began, she was very focused on grades and deadlines but now tries to take time for herself – to go outside, make new friends and actually enjoy being on campus. This has kept her motivated to enjoy her time and keep her passion for learning.
Looking ahead, Noshin hopes to work in data strategy or AI-driven business solutions, combining her background in finance with her new technical expertise. She also hopes to one day return to Bangladesh and contribute to the growing technology sector there, empowering more women to pursue STEM careers.
Studying has really changed how Noshin sees her future. It’s shown her that learning never stops, and that sometimes the best thing you can do is take a leap into something new.
