This year, Curtin is proudly represented by seven teams across a range of disciplines:

Women’s Sports:

  • Netball
  • Hockey
  • Taekwondo

Men’s Sports:

  • Futsal
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball

Our teams have been putting in the hard work, and we caught up with a few team captains to hear what they’re most looking forward to and what makes their teams unique.

Brianna Bennett (netball and overall Curtin captain)

What are you most looking forward to at UniNationals?
I am most looking forward to competing against all the different universities. The competitive and friendly culture is amazing.
How would you describe your team? What makes them special?
The Women’s Netball team is a talented group of young women who are passionate about netball. We have formed an encouraging and lively team environment.
How long has your team been training for this?
We commenced training at the start of Semester 2, so a total of ten weeks.
Which university will be your biggest challenge, and why?
We have only got our fixtures for the first two days but looking at who we play I would say ECU, mainly for the bragging rights of who is the best WA team.

Zoe Thomas (hockey captain)

What are you most looking forward to at UniNationals?
I am most looking forward to the chance to play against other universities and to connecting with my fellow teammates!
How would you describe your team? What makes them special?
The women’s hockey team brings the vibe; they understand the importance of having fun and smiling along the way!
How long has your team been training for this?
We have been training since late June.
Which university will be your biggest challenge, and why?
ANU is always a tough game; credit to them for a strong team, but we look forward to seeing how we play as a team against tough competition.

Beau Haynes (futsal captain)

What are you most looking forward to at UniNationals?
Mostly the futsal but also the chance to meet people from other Uni’s and hang out with a good bunch of team mates.
How would you describe your team? What makes them special?
My team is dynamic. Some highly competitive, some just there to have fun and others excited and energetic. We do have three players including myself that plays in the Supaliga A which is the local competitive league in WA.
How long has your team been training for this?
We joined slightly late so not long at all, proper training started maybe two months ago!
Which university will be your biggest challenge, and why?
UTS will probably be our biggest challenge because two years ago when Curtin put a futsal team in they beat us in the final. And now they are in our pool in the group stages.

Let’s cheer on Carnabys, good luck to all our athletes competing at UniNationals 2025!
