Our alumni make a difference

A new beginning down under

A new beginning down under

Meet Shohreh, an Iranian-born, occupational therapy graduate who rebuilt her life from the ground up after migrating to Australia in 2012.

Navigating language barriers while juggling study, work, and motherhood, Shohreh’s resilience and determination led her to discover a passion for Occupational Therapy.

Her story is one of courage, perseverance, and the transformative power of education, family support, and finding purpose in a new country.

Redefining masculinity

Redefining masculinity

Physiotherapy graduate Daniel Principe has always considered himself a bit of an outsider. Growing up, Daniel was bullied a lot and struggled to fit in with his peers.

He became unsettled with the way of the world, and these experiences led him to question how we socialise, especially how boys and men interact.

On a mission to change this, Daniel now champions boys around Australia to live courageous, respectful and empathetic lives.

Mentoring tomorrow’s Child and Adolescent experts

Mentoring tomorrow’s Child and Adolescent experts

Seven alumni mentored 30 students in rapid-fire sessions—sparking lively chats, real-world insights, and strong connections.

The alumni reflected on the value of support during placements, especially in rural settings, and how rewarding it felt to give back and connect with the next generation.

We’re so grateful to our alumni community for their generosity, insight and time.

Lessons on building resilience

Lessons on building resilience

At school, Curtin graduate Derek Collings-Hughes didn’t know paramedicine existed – let alone that it would become his chosen profession!

It was during a visit to his doctor to collect a medical certificate after a missed exam, that planted the seed for his future career in paramedicine.

Since then, Derek has forged an impactful career working as a Registered Paramedic at St John WA for close to a decade and is a dedicated Lecturer at Curtin, where he educates the next generation of emergency health professionals.

Enhancing nursing practices through global perspectives

Enhancing nursing practices through global perspectives

Through the Global Scholars Program, 16 Curtin Perth nursing students and two staff joined Curtin Mauritius for an enriching academic and cultural exchange. From hands-on learning and community engagement to exploring the island’s history and hiking Le Pouce mountain, the experience fostered skills, resilience, and global perspectives.
