Success in NHMRC grants
Curtin has received over $6 million funding in the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grants, including seven NHMRC Project grants and one Centre of Research Excellence grant.

NHMRC Project Grants (for funding commencing in 2016)

Australian Research Council (ARC) Success
Please join in congratulating Associate Professor Alison Reid and Professor Lin Fritschi on their success in being awarded an ARC Discovery Project Grant in this year’s funding round. The project is aimed at comparing the prevalence of exposure to workplace hazards (including carcinogens and psychosocial risk factors) among migrant and Australian-born workers and will address an important evidence gap in the literature.
Cancer Council WA Epidemiology Initiative grant
Congratulations to Professor Lin Fritschi, Associate Professor Alison Reid, Renee Carey, Dr Terry Boyle who is about to return to Curtin from his overseas NHMRC early career fellowship, Liz Milne from Telethon Kids and Jennifer Stone from UWA on being awarded the Cancer Council WA Epidemiology Initiative grant over three years. The award will support Curtin as the centre of excellence in epidemiology (particularly cancer epidemiology) in WA and in Australia. Congratulations to Lin, Alison, Renee, Terry, Liz and Jennifer on this terrific achievement.
PhD Congratulations!
Congratulations to Dr Jacqui Hendriks who has completed her PhD titled: Are attitudes and intentions towards sex associated with risky sexual behaviour in urban Western Australian adolescents?
Many of you will know Jacqui as the Project Officer for the Sexuality and Relationships Education Project in CERIPH. Jacqui has juggled work on various projects including SRE and her PhD (in addition to two small children!!) in an extremely competent and calm manner.
Jacqui has had a range of supervisors and academic support staff including: Sue Fyfe, Irene Styles, Rachel Skinner, Sharyn Burns, Maryanne Doherty and Gareth Merriman (Chair Jonine Jancey).
New PhD Student
Congratulations to Claire Pulker on being awarded a Healthway scholarship to undertake her PhD at Curtin. Claire will commence her project the impact of supermarket own brand foods on food choice and diet in 2016 and will be supervised by Dr Christina Pollard and Professor Jane Scott.
Ben Mullins announced as top author of the month!
Congratulations to Associate Professor Ben Mullins for his article The VW scandal exposes the high tech control of engine emissions, on the Conversation. Ben received the most reads last month out of any Curtin contribution! 10,073 people read his article, making him top author of the month, well done!
