A new Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) Use Agreement template is now available for research student projects that are not linked to funding agreements.

Developed by the Dean Indigenous Futures (Faculty of Humanities), the Research Office, Legal Services and the Library, this brief agreement provides a clear mechanism for documenting cultural governance arrangements and protecting ICIP in student-led research.

The agreement encourages Higher Degree by Research and Postgraduate students and supervisors to have important conversations about Indigenous governance early in the research process, ensuring respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural rights, knowledge, and heritage.

It is designed to be simple to complete, with key protocols covering engagement, attribution, data management, and community benefit, and should be stored alongside research data or a thesis.
