The 2026 Western Series Pride Cup is getting a colourful makeover, and Curtin students are invited to take part in the Wear It Purple Colour Run.

Hosted by UWA Sport, this exciting event combines friendly inter-university competition with an energetic colour run celebrating inclusion, pride, and community. Expect a vibrant atmosphere with a live DJ, special guests, and plenty of colour throughout the afternoon.

About Wear It Purple Day

Wear It Purple Day is an annual awareness day that celebrates and supports LGBTQIA+ young people. It encourages schools, universities, workplaces, and communities to wear purple as a visible sign of inclusion, respect, and allyship.

The day was established in 2010 by two Australian students after they were inspired to take action against the bullying and discrimination experienced by LGBTQIA+ young people. Since then, it has grown into a nationwide event across Australia.

📅 Friday, 28 August 2026

🕐 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

📍 UWA Campus

The goals of Wear It Purple Day include:

  • Promoting safe, supportive, and inclusive environments for LGBTQIA+ young people.
  • Raising awareness of the challenges LGBTQIA+ youth can face, including bullying, discrimination, and social isolation.
  • Encouraging people to become active allies and celebrate diversity.

Purple was chosen because it has long been associated with diversity, pride, and inclusion.

Represent Curtin

Curtin is looking for a team of 8–20 students to compete against the other Western Series universities in a cross-country style challenge. The course follows the UWA Parkrun route and is approximately 3 km, making it suitable for a wide range of fitness levels.

Once the competitive race wraps up, the course will open for a fun run, where UWA students, staff, and community members will join in the celebrations.

What you need to know

  • The colour powder has been approved by UWA’s on-campus safety team and is gluten-free and non-hazardous.
  • Wear white to make the colours stand out—they’ll wash out afterwards.
  • Competitive runners will wear coloured wristbands so officials can record points for each university at the finish line.

If you’d like to represent Curtin at this year’s Western Series Pride Cup, register your interest to Andrew McBean (andrew.mcbean@curtin.edu.au) by 31 July 2026.

Whether you’re aiming to compete, support inclusion in university sport, or simply enjoy an unforgettable afternoon with fellow students, we’d love to see you involved.
