Science courses
Curtin offers science degrees to suit different study pathways and career goals. If you choose Applied Geology, Mineral Processing or Mining, you’ll begin your studies in Perth and complete your degree in Kalgoorlie. (Other undergraduate science courses are studied entirely in Perth.)
At Curtin Kalgoorlie, the Western Australian School of Mines places you close to industry and helps connect classroom learning with field-based experience. Each semester includes work-integrated learning activities, which may include day trips, overnight stays and exposure to mine-site environments.
Postgraduate science
If you already have a relevant undergraduate degree, you can study the Graduate Certificate in Mineral Exploration Geoscience, which combines online study and on-campus learning at Curtin Kalgoorlie.
Engineering courses
Curtin engineering courses combine strong technical foundations with industry exposure. In the Metallurgical Engineering and Mining Engineering majors, the first two years are delivered at Curtin Perth.1 The final two years are delivered at Curtin Kalgoorlie, where you’ll use specialist facilities, and have access to industry connections and practical experience in one of Australia’s key resources regions.

Postgraduate engineering
If you already have a relevant undergraduate degree, you can study Curtin’s Master of Professional Engineering in Mining or Metallurgy at Curtin Kalgoorlie.
Health
Curtin Kalgoorlie has an important role in regional health training in Western Australia, helping prepare students for careers in nursing, medicine and allied health.
The Curtin Rural Health Campus gives medicine, nursing and allied health students access to practical training environments that reflect rural and regional healthcare settings. Facilities include a simulated hospital ward and clinical training rooms, helping you to practise professional skills, build confidence and prepare for placements and careers in regional communities. (Note that free accommodation is available for students attending a health-related clinical placement.)
The Goldfields University Department of Rural Health is a key part of Curtin Kalgoorlie’s contribution to the region. It supports short- and long-term rural training opportunities and regional placements through partnerships with health services – including WA Country Health Service and the Royal Flying Doctor Service – helping develop a workforce that is better prepared to meet the needs of communities across the Goldfields-Esperance region.
Nursing
For enrolled nurses, our Advanced Nursing course (Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse stream) provides a pathway to become a registered nurse. The course is delivered online and on-campus at Curtin Kalgoorlie, giving you flexibility while maintaining access to local support.
Business
From next year (2027) Curtin Kalgoorlie will offer additional support for students studying three business courses: Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration and Undergraduate Certificate in Business Administration online.
As part of these courses, two core business units will be delivered in a blended format, combining on-campus learning at the Kalgoorlie campus with online study. Each unit will include face-to-face learning, self-paced online study and weekly online consultations with teaching staff. It gives you the flexibility to study online while building connections with classmates and tutors, accessing additional academic support and developing confidence as you transition to university study.
As part of these degrees, two core business units will be delivered in a blended format, combining on-campus learning at the Kalgoorlie campus with online study. Each unit includes 12 hours of face-to-face learning, 24 hours of self-paced online study and weekly online consultation sessions with teaching staff.
This approach gives students the flexibility to study online while building connections with classmates and tutors, accessing additional academic support, and developing confidence as they transition to university study.

Online courses in other study areas
You can access a range of Curtin courses through Curtin Kalgoorlie, in areas such as architecture and construction, the arts, business, education and health. You’ll complete lectures, assessments and group work online, while still being able to use Curtin Kalgoorlie campus services when needed. You can choose to study directly through Curtin or through Open Universities Australia.
UniReady pathways
UniReady is a free program that can help you gain entry to a range of Curtin courses. You can choose to study online or at Curtin Kalgoorlie. Through UniReady, you’ll complete two core units at Curtin Kalgoorlie – Foundations of Communications and Fundamentals of Academic Writing – while studying a mathematics unit and a discipline-specific unit online. After completing UniReady, you’ll have achieved Curtin’s minimum English requirement
Curtin Kalgoorlie also delivers the UniReady Academic English Competency program, a two-unit pathway designed to help students meet Curtin’s English language requirements and prepare for further university study. The program is designed for students who meet Curtin’s admission requirements but still need to satisfy the English language competency requirement.
UniReady Extended is an online pathway program designed for students from regional and remote communities. It provides additional academic preparation and support for students seeking entry into a wider range of Curtin undergraduate courses, including engineering and selected health science degrees.

On-campus support and facilities
Whether you study on campus or online, Curtin Kalgoorlie offers support to help you succeed. Services include course advice, career guidance, peer-to-peer tutoring, academic skills workshops, IT support, orientation activities, wellbeing support, student clubs and a gym.
The library
The Curtin Kalgoorlie library is ideal for quiet study. It has a unique collection of mining and related resources, a Makerspace, and ready access to health sciences learning resources. Library staff also provide assignment and study skills workshops.
Computer labs
The computer labs are open 24 hours before and during exams, and from 7am to midnight during semester, so you can access technology and study at times that suit you.
Curtin Kalgoorlie clubs
Student clubs include Women of WASM, the MET Club, WAMSAK, the WASM Wombats, the WASM Wolves Mine Rescue Team, the WASM Guild and the WASM Social Club. The WASM Guild hosts free weekly barbecues and international food nights, and the social club also offers students a range of activities, including industry networking nights.
Student accommodation
A few minutes’ walk from the campus, Agricola provides comfortable, convenient and secure accommodation while you study. Living on campus can enhance your university experience: it’s convenient, helps you save time, and gives you the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy your independence in a safe and supportive environment.

Executive Education
In addition to undergraduate and postgraduate study options, Curtin Kalgoorlie also provides short, Executive Education courses. In June and July this year, for example, the Campus delivered the courses AI in Leadership, and Critical Thinking and Decision Making.
