Do you want to make the most of your university studies? Are you eager for global experiences that will prepare you for an international career?

Curtin’s Campus Transfer Program allows you to transfer to Curtin Australia once you’ve started your Curtin University studies at one of our global campuses. It’s a chance to build a global mindset, gain industry insights and advance your learning.

In this article, Jia Yu Lo shares her experience transferring from Curtin Malaysia to Curtin Australia – Curtin University’s main campus in Perth, Western Australia (WA). She reflects on how the program aligned with her ambitions, what it’s like to study in Australia and describes her international adventure.

Where it all started: Miri, Malaysia

Meet Jia Yu.

Jia Yu’s university journey began at Curtin Malaysia, where she enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Finance.

“Curtin’s international recognition, strong reputation in teaching and impactful research appealed to me,” she explains.

“I’ve also always wanted to study in Australia, and I knew that transferring from Curtin Malaysia to Curtin Australia was a perfect opportunity to do so.”

With a clear vision for her future, Jia Yu decided to take the leap – transferring to Curtin Australia and expanding her horizons.

Why live and study in Australia? Here’s what Jia Yu has to say

For Jia Yu, transferring to Curtin Australia was a key step toward achieving her career ambitions.

“I chose to transfer to Curtin Australia because it offers an internationally recognised education, advanced resources and the chance to gain global exposure in my field,” Jia Yu says.

“I can experience a multicultural learning environment, access advanced resources and connect with industry professionals.

“I also see it as an important step in achieving my long-term goal of becoming a professional accountant, as it will strengthen both my technical knowledge and practical skills in an international context.”

What is it like to study at an Australian university?

Settling into classes in Australia brought new – and welcome – experiences for Jia Yu.

“I enjoy using the modern computer labs and the library’s extensive resources – they make studying and completing assignments much easier.”

What stands out to Jia Yu about study at Curtin Australia is the balance of theory and practice.

“The teaching style is interactive at Curtin Australia, with group discussions and practical activities,” she says.

“I appreciate how the course allows me to build a strong foundation in accounting and finance concepts, and then apply them through real-world case studies, projects and using industry-standard software.”

In the long term, Jia Yu is ambitious about joining a global accounting firm like Deloitte, EY, or KPMG. She says Curtin is helping make that dream a reality.

“Curtin’s mix of technical knowledge and hands-on learning is preparing me to meet my career goals.”

The campus transfer experience: seamless and supportive

While studying in another country can be daunting, Curtin’s transfer program offers support from staff and agents at every step of the journey.

“My Curtin-registered agent gave me clear advice on the requirements, helped plan my courses and assisted with documentation,” says Jia Yu. “Their guidance made the experience stress-free and gave me confidence to move forward.”

Adding to the seamlessness of the transition is Curtin’s globally unified academic calendar and courses. With the same schedule and curriculum across our global campuses, students who transfer to Curtin Australia don’t have their studies disrupted.

Financially, our  Curtin Global Talent Scholarship offers many students, including Jia Yu, an important source of support.

“It has reduced the burden on my family and inspired me to make the most of my studies and participate in extracurricular activities that build my professional skills.”

Embracing life in Perth, Australia

For Jia Yu, moving to Perth, WA, from Malaysia has been an exciting and refreshing change.

“The lifestyle and pace here are so different compared to my hometown. People are relaxed, the city feels open and spacious, and the natural surroundings are beautiful,” she says.

Jia Yu’s weekends are filled with sunshine, whether she’s visiting Kings Park or relaxing on the beach with friends.

“Perth offers so many opportunities to relax and recharge.”
