Olympian Jake Harvie recognised among Curtin’s Elite Athlete Alumni
Olympian and Curtin graduate Jake Harvie was inducted into the Vice-Chancellor’s Elite Athlete Alumni, recognising his journey from Dardanup to representing Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Hosted by Ashleigh Nelson OLY, the Awards honoured the accomplishments of Curtin’s athletes, volunteers and clubs.
Dean Macaulay’s call to action: creating an inclusive sporting community at Curtin
As Curtin’s Director of Accommodation and Community Services, Dean Macaulay reflected on the night: “Tonight is not just about medals and milestones. It’s also about momentum. Because 2025 marks a major step forward for sport and recreation at Curtin.
Earlier this year, Curtin Sport & Recreation finalised its 2025–2029 Strategic Plan – a clear, ambitious roadmap for the next five years at its heart is a powerful and inclusive mission: to create an environment that welcomes our entire community to participate in sport and recreation. That’s not just a slogan – it’s a call to action. It’s about making sure that sport and recreation at Curtin is something every student feels part of.”

2025 Winner – Curtin University Tennis Club.
This award recognises a club’s commitment to the growth of their club and their sport on the Curtin University campus.
Unisport Athlete of the year
2025 winner – Mia Gordon (Javelin)
Awarded to Curtin’s most outstanding athlete who represented Curtin University at a Uni Sport /FISU sanction event.
Sports Star of the year award
2025 winners – Nicholas Porter (Water Polo) & Grace Stewart (Hockey)
Awarded to the student whose sporting achievements and sense of
fair play in women’s and men’s competition have been deemed to be of the highest level.
