Media are invited to attend the 2008 Annual Ethics Lecture to be delivered by Chris Masters on Tuesday 21 October.

Chris Masters is an ABC TV Four Corners reporter and he will reflect on the moral responsibility of journalism after 40 years with the national broadcaster.

In 1983 Chris Masters’ first program on Four Corners became the landmark report, ‘The Big League’ and in 1985, he won the Gold Walkley for his international scoop about the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior. In 1987 Masters produced what became his most famous program, ‘The Moonlight State,’ which triggered the Fitzgerald Inquiry into Queensland Police corruption.

He has also compiled a book detailing the making of many of these programs, Inside Story, which was published in 1991. Masters’ second book, Not for Publication, also reflects on his work and the trend he observes in television current affairs toward entertainment at the expense of public service journalism.

Note to COS/Editor: Refreshments will be served from 5.15pm in the John Curtin Gallery, Building 200 and media are asked to RSVP to Monique Billstein on 9266 3353 by Friday 17 October. Parking is available in car park P3 (please enter via the Kent Street main entrance and follow the signs to car park P3).
