Kattidj Nagãr [Peaceful Quiet Reflection]

John Curtin Gallery 3 Oct - 7 Dec 2025

We invite you to pause and take a quiet moment to sit with the stories of the Carrolup children, reflecting on their lived experiences as part of the Stolen Generations.

The Herbert Mayer Collection of Carrolup Artwork was created in the 1940s to early 1950s by Noongar and other Aboriginal children who were forcibly removed from their families and detained at the Carrolup Native Settlement, including those from as far as the Pilbara and Kimberley regions.

Kattidj Nagãr [Peaceful Quiet Reflection] is a place of connection. A gateway to a third space of shared truth and understanding of our interwoven history. A place where, through the children’s artwork and stories, we acknowledge the strength and resilience of Aboriginal peoples and cultures and walk together to create a more just and equitable world.

The space reopened in October 2025 with new reproductions, including those by Barry Loo, Edie Wallam, Keith Indich and Once Known Child Artists, with works by Authur Bropho, Alma Cuttabut, and Parnell Dempster.
