In need of a physio? The Curtin Physiotherapy Clinic provides affordable and professional treatment for musculoskeletal and sports injuries to students, staff and the wider community.

Visits are $10 for Guild members and $20 for non-Guild members.

We’re delighted to present our brand-new Health Sciences graduates, who recently amazed us at the Bunuru graduation ceremonies on our stunning Bentley campus. Let’s give them a warm welcome as they join the health workforce and bring their brilliance to the field.

Our heartfelt thank you to our dynamic speakers – Max Romaine, Dr Elizabeth Hayden, and Michelle Ondra – for their inspiring and moving speeches. Kudos to Dr Neale Fong, honoured with a prestigious Honorary Doctor of Medicine for his stellar contributions to Curtin, medicine, and health service management over many decades. This year is monumental as we celebrate 50 years of Dietetics, 50 years of Speech Pathology, and 40 years of the Curtin Stuttering Treatment Clinic (CSTC). Graduates named finalists in Rural Health Awards

Karen Yardley and Shaylee Mills are finalists in the 2025 WA Rural Health Excellence Awards!

These awards celebrate health professionals who have dedicated their careers to caring for rural communities and improving medical care in remote areas.

Both pharmacy graduates, Karen is a finalist for Allied Health Professional of the Year, while Shaylee is nominated for Young Health Professional of the Year.

Winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Saturday 22 March 2025.

Matilda Health transforms endometriosis care

Allied Health graduates Dr Kevin Wernli and Joanna Morris co-founders of Matilda. Digital Endometriosis Care, were recently awarded a $421,300 grant from the Department of Health (WA Health) to build out their digital endometriosis support start-up.

Since graduating from Curtin Accelerate, a free ten-week program last year, they have gone from strength to strength growing the company which has now refined its focus to provide holistic-pre and post-surgery optimisation programs for endometriosis patients.

Leading the future of respiratory diagnostics

Curtin grad Eldin Rostom and the team at Diag-Nose.io recently closed their oversubscribed $3.5M Seed Round!

Eldin is the CEO and co-founder of medical start-up, Diag-Nose.io, and is pioneering the way forward in the diagnosis of chronic respiratory disorders.

With generous support from Breakthrough Victoria, Diag-Nose.io is set to revolutionise respiratory care, potentially improving health outcomes for millions of people around the world.

This year, Eldin and his team plan to launch a series of clinical studies across Australia and the US to further validate their breakthrough technology.

New midwifery birth centre

Western Australia’s first fully endorsed midwife-led maternity service at a public hospital officially opened in December 2024. The Midwifery Birth Centre, staffed entirely by Credentialed and Endorsed midwives, will provide innovative care for women deemed low-risk in Bentley and surrounding areas.

Associate Professor Zoe Bradfield, President of the Australian College of Midwives (ACM) along with new ACM Board Director and Acting Executive Director of the Armadale Kalamunda Group (AKG), Alisha Thompson—both Curtin School of Nursing alumnae—joined in celebrating this milestone.

Welcome Associate Professor Clive Walley!

Welcome Associate Professor Clive Walley!

We are delighted to welcome Associate Professor Clive Walley as the Dean, Indigenous in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

A Balardong, Pinjarup, Wadjuri, and Yeud Nyungar man, Clive brings extensive experience in Aboriginal health, education, and social justice. He has worked closely with Aboriginal Elders to support cultural teaching and holds deep connections across academic and community networks.

Most recently, Clive served as National Director of Indigenous Partnerships and Community Engagement at the University of Notre Dame. He has also held key roles at WA Health, Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service, and Curtin’s Centre for Aboriginal Studies.

We look forward to seeing the impact of his leadership in the Faculty!

International expert named as new NDRI Director

International expert named as new NDRI Director

Welcome to Professor Paul Griffiths as Director of the National Drug Research Institute (NDRI). A global leader in alcohol and other drug research, Paul brings 30 years of experience, most recently as Scientific Director at the European Union Drug Agency.

His expertise in policy and harm prevention will be invaluable to NDRI.

New CEO for Rural Health West

Rural Health West has appointed Professor Catherine Elliott, an Allied Health Curtin graduate, as its new CEO.

With extensive experience in clinical practice, research, and leadership including roles at The Kids Research Institute Australia, Curtin University, and the Child and Adolescent Health Service—Prof Elliott is committed to enhancing rural healthcare.

Prof Elliott is eager to collaborate with partners and the Rural Health West team to address challenges and improve healthcare outcomes in regional WA.

2025 Citizen of the Year at the City of Gosnells

Act Belong Commit Campaign Manager Rodney Glossop, from the Curtin School of Population Health, has been named the 2025 Citizen of the Year at the City of Gosnells annual Australia Day awards ceremony. Rodney’s volunteer work and commitment to building an active and engaged community was celebrated at the awards, which recognise individuals who positively impact their community by inspiring change and others.

Rodney is a passionate advocate for health and wellbeing and has made a profound impact on his local community through years of dedicated volunteer work with Thornlie Homestead parkrun, parkrun Australia and the Thornlie Junior Football Club, fostering inclusivity and helping to break down social barriers.

Prof Fiona Doolan-Noble awarded rural health grant

Congratulations to Goldfields University Department of Rural Health (GUDRH) Director, Prof Fiona Doolan-Noble!

Fiona has been announced as a successful recipient of a Rural and Remote health priority grant through Cancer Council Western Australia, for her research project aiming to improve the difficulties experienced by people living with cancer in our regional, rural and remote areas.

Improved early diagnosis and cancer treatments are among the anticipated outcomes, bringing greater levels of equity to people living in these areas.

The Rural and Remote health priority grant is one of the twelve Cancer Research Projects Grants co-funded by the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund and Cancer Council WA.

Professor Patrick Dunlop named among world’s best

Professor Patrick Dunlop named among world’s best

Professor Patrick Dunlop, from the Future of Work Institute (FOWI), has been named among the world’s leading researchers in industrial and organisational (IO) psychology. Professor Dunlop has been elected as a Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) Fellow, one of the highest honours in the field, awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to IO Psychology.

Professor Dunlop joins existing fellows from FOWI including John Curtin Distinguished Professors Mark Griffin, Sharon Parker and Marylène Gagné, further strengthening FOWI’s reputation as a world-class research institute.

The Australian Institute of Policy and Science celebrated Dr Angela Spence, an exercise scientist, cardiovascular physiologist, alumna and senior lecturer at the Curtin School of Allied Health and 2024 Young Tall Poppy as part of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
