Empowered nurses go beyond the bedside

From emergency departments to research labs and healthcare policy, empowered nurses are shaping the future of healthcare in more ways than ever before.

In recognition of International Nurses Day and this year’s theme, Empowered Nurses Save Lives, Curtin alumni and academics reflect on the many ways nurses are driving change through leadership, advocacy, education, innovation and compassionate care.

40 Under 40 Awards

Curtin alumnus Curtis Reddell has been recognised through the 40 Under 40 Awards for his leadership within the disability services sector. As Chief Operating Officer of Therapy Focus, Curtis played a key role in guiding the organisation through a challenging transition period, helping ensure continuity of care for more than 3,300 clients across Western Australia.

Alongside his work at Therapy Focus, Curtis also serves as Deputy Chair of Wanslea (now Uplyft), continuing his commitment to supporting children, families and communities through early learning and development initiatives.

WA Nursing & Midwifery Awards

Curtin nursing and midwifery alumni are continuing to make an extraordinary impact across Western Australia, with graduates recognised at the 2026 WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.

From culturally safe maternity care and research excellence to leadership in healthcare, these alumni are shaping the future of health and supporting communities across the state

Curtin Oral Health Therapy students are building the confidence and clinical skills needed to support the future oral health workforce, progressing from simulation-based learning into real-world practice.

Through strong partnerships with clinical providers across Western Australia, students gain hands-on experience that prepares them to deliver adaptable, patient-centred care in diverse community settings.
