The bear necessities of better dental care

Molar Bears is redefining dental care, with Curtin alumnae Milly Griffin-Appadoo and Maddie Branson taking a mobile, prevention-first approach.

By meeting patients where they are, they’re removing barriers and creating positive, stress-free dental experiences.

The result is a model that’s not only changing behaviours but improving wellbeing and access to care across entire communities.

Real pressure. Real practice. Future paramedics.

Real pressure. Real practice. Future paramedics.

Training at Curtin is going beyond the classroom, with paramedicine students now learning inside a fully equipped simulator ambulance.

The experience challenges students to think, act and communicate like real paramedics in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

It’s a powerful step towards ensuring graduates feel confident, capable and ready for the realities of out-of-hospital care.

Celebrating excellence

Scholarships driving change in Medicine

Curtin has celebrated a powerful milestone with the graduation of three Aboriginal medical doctors, marking an important step forward in building a more representative healthcare workforce.

Their journey reflects the impact of creating accessible pathways through scholarships into medicine and the importance of culturally informed care.

As they begin their careers across Western Australia, they are not only improving health outcomes but inspiring the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals.

Curtin School of Nursing prize night

The Curtin School of Nursing Celebration of Excellence is a special evening dedicated to recognising the outstanding achievements of students, with staff and industry partners.

Bringing the community together, the event highlights academic excellence, leadership and the meaningful contributions shaping the future of nursing.

Through award presentations and shared moments of recognition, it celebrates the passion, dedication and impact of those committed to delivering high-quality patient care.

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences prize night

The Curtin School of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences, in partnership with the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS), recently celebrated excellence at the annual AIMS Student Awards Evening.
The event recognised outstanding academic achievement in Laboratory Medicine, including the prestigious AIMS Gold Medal Award (John R Neal Gold Medal) and AIMS Silver Medal Award (John Lown Silver Medal), awarded to students demonstrating exceptional performance and dedication to the profession.

Supported by valued industry partners, the evening brought together students, staff and sponsors to celebrate not only academic success, but the future of diagnostic science and its critical role in healthcare.

It was a powerful reminder of the strength of Curtin’s clinical science community and the impact these graduates will have across laboratories, hospitals and health systems.

How the cycle of giving continues

Oral Health Therapy Uniform Bursary

Oral Health Therapy Uniform Bursary

We know that our Oral Health Therapy students incur significant out of pocket expenses, especially during their first year. To help ease this financial pressure, we are delighted to introduce a new initiative, called the Oral Health Therapy Uniform Bursary, that will support all first-year students by subsidising the cost of the required uniforms.

This initiative has only been made possible through the generosity of our donors: the Australian Dental Association (WA Branch), the Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO) WA Branch, and One Dental. This commitment plays an important role in supporting our students as they begin their journey toward becoming the Oral Health Therapy professionals of the future, and we are sincerely grateful.

Students cook up change with Dr Rebecca Russell

Students cook up change with Dr Rebecca Russell

From chef to academic, Dr Rebecca Russell is using her unique background to make a meaningful difference at Curtin.
In a recent hands-on cooking session, 19 Nutrition and Dietetics students prepared nutritious meals for the Guild Food Pantry, directly supporting peers in need.
It’s an initiative that not only addresses food insecurity but empowers students to use their skills for real-world impact.
