More than 200 Curtin students across 17 sports and 26 teams, represented the Curtin Caranbys. Leading the Carnabys throughout the week were Curtin captains Brianna Bennett (Netball) and Lukas Murray (Volleyball), who played an important role in supporting our athletes and helping bring the Curtin team together across the championships.

The Curtin campus played a key role hosting Taekwondo, Ultimate Frisbee, Oztag and Futsal competitions across Curtin venues throughout the week. Across the four sports, more than 500 students attended the campus to compete.

On the competition front, the Carnabys had plenty to celebrate..

In Division 1, our Men’s Hockey team and Women’s Judo claimed Division 1 gold and a championship pennant. At rowing, Curtin got silver in the Open Womens Coxless Pair and the Womens Lightweight Double Scull. While our Men’s Tennis team competed hard but fell short of a bronze medal.

Our Men’s Beach Volleyball team won Division 2 gold, Men’s Futsal and Men’s Volleyball both secured silver medals, and Mixed Squash finished with bronze.

There were also several outstanding individual performances across the week.

In cycling, Joely Patterson claimed silver in the Road Race and bronze in the Time Trial, while Toby Price earned bronze in the Criterium.

Across Judo and Taekwondo, Curtin athletes also brought home a strong collection of individual medals, including gold medals for Kris Ritcher, Mihini Dassanayake and Paige Cover, alongside further silver and bronze medal performances from Zara Azis, Victor Angnowen, Scott Fuerste and Izabella Sandover.

Another Nationals highlight was beyond the competition, on Wednesday 1 October Curtin athletes and volunteers joined competitors from universities across Australia at UniFest in the Perth CBD. The festival-style event brought the Nationals community together for an evening of music, food, giveaways, activities and activations. A highlight of the night was the iconic Mascot Race, with our very own Carl the Carnaby getting involved in the action alongside mascots from universities across Australia.

The Curtin contingent also came together on Thursday evening for a team dinner at The Curtin Tavern, giving athletes a chance to catch up, celebrate the week and enjoy some time together away from competition.

A special thank you goes to Muhammad Taqieva Ahsan, our student volunteer photographer, who provided incredible support throughout the championships. Muhammad travelled across Perth to cover Curtin teams competing at multiple venues, helping capture the action, achievements and experiences of our students throughout the week. His commitment meant we were able to showcase the Carnabys across the full Nationals campaign.

From podium finishes and pennants to team dinners, UniFest and plenty of moments in between, it was an unforgettable week for the Curtin Carnabys.

A huge congratulations to all of our students who represented Curtin with pride, and thank you to the coaches, staff, volunteers, officials and support teams who helped make the 2026 Nationals campaign such a success.
