Curtin is a vibrant and welcoming place where students from around the world come to learn, grow and build meaningful connections. While Curtin is a safe and supportive community, it is still important to stay aware of people who may try to take advantage of your trust, especially if you are new to Perth or just settling in.
Although these scams are uncommon, being able to recognise the warning signs can help protect you and others from getting caught up in something suspicious. By staying informed, confident and looking out for each other, we can make Curtin a smarter and safer campus for everyone.
Other Scams to Watch For
These aren’t the only scams out there. Here are a few more to be aware of:
- Fake job offers that ask for upfront payment or personal bank details
- “Charity” or “petition” scams that pressure you into giving money or your information
- Romance or “friendship” scams that ask for favours or money after gaining your trust
- Accommodation scams that offer fake rental listings and ask for deposits
If it feels off, it probably is. Trust your instincts.
