Christine Foster Memorial Scholarship

Support female students studying a science or engineering degree in memory of Christine Foster by donating to the Scholarship Endowment.

Christine Foster

Born and bred in Kalgoorlie, Christine was destined to pursue a career in mining. She attained her engineering (mining) degree at the WA School of Mines Kalgoorlie campus and after graduating in 1996, gained early experience in Australian and New Zealand underground mines. A motivated professional who was well regarded by her peers, Christine actively improved standards and challenged barriers for women in mining. She tragically died in Edinburgh on June 29, 2000.

The Scholarship

Christine’s fellow WASM Alumni have established the Christine Foster Memorial Scholarship and the Endowment fund to honour her memory by supporting female students pursuing science and engineering degrees at Curtin.

Having the funds in an endowment ensures that the gifts have a lasting impact, as the funds’ earnings will continue to support for the Scholarship for generations to come. Contributing to the endowment will enable Curtin to increase the number of scholarships awarded in the future.

Hear from the recipients

This scholarship will allow me to continue to study in Kalgoorlie and pursue my dream in becoming a Mining Geologist.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Christine’s fellow WASM alumni for honouring her memory and putting together
such an amazing scholarship. Christine’s story whilst tragic has inspired myself and so many other young women pursuing careers in STEM, especially in mining.

Vada Radford – 2024

“Knowing that someone read my profile and said, ‘she deserves the scholarship’ made me feel really good and has helped me challenge myself even more,’’
This scholarship not only lightens my financial burden but also reinforces my determination to succeed in my chosen field. I am committed to using my education and skills to make a positive impact, particularly in empowering women in STEM. I aspire to become a role model and advocate, encouraging more young women to pursue their passion in these fields and break down the existing gender barriers.
