Student Professional Development Grant

Help students take learning beyond the classroom. This grant removes financial barriers to professional development aligned with leadership, service and community impact, because the right opportunity can change a student’s path and the impact they go on to make.

Every student deserves the opportunity to grow through professional development, regardless of financial circumstance.

Supporting students through the Student Professional Development Grant enables them to access experiences that shape not only their time at university, but their lives and careers beyond graduation. Opportunities such as presenting on international stages, engaging in global learning environments, and participating in sector‑defining conferences expand learning beyond the classroom and build confidence, adaptability, and cultural awareness. These practical experiences develop the real‑world capabilities employers value most and contribute to the reason why Curtin graduates are rated as some of the most employable in WA, yet they are often the first students must forgo when financial pressures arise.

Costs associated with travel, registration, accommodation, and time away from paid work can place these moments out of reach, regardless of talent or ambition. The Student Professional Development Grant exists to remove that barrier. By easing the financial burden, donors help ensure access to these defining opportunities is guided by potential, not personal circumstance, empowering students to graduate with lived experience, confidence, and perspective alongside their degree.

Why your support matters

Sharnell Avery

Student Professional Development Grant recipient
Current Student – Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery

“In the future, I hope to practise in regional and underserved communities, where clinical medicine intersects with prevention, cultural safety, and empowerment. I want to be a doctor who listens first – who understands that health is shaped by connection, opportunity, policy, and history, complimented with biology.

But more than anything, I hope that one day, a young person looks at me – in a clinic, on a field, or in a classroom – and sees possibility.”

Amy Tang

Student Professional Development Grant recipient
Bachelor of Arts (Digital & Social Media) & Bachelor of Commerce (International Business)

I’m excited to embark on an opportunity to understand further my passions and ‘why’ for creating accessible, equitable pathways for equal educational opportunity. It feels empowering to have the support and belief of Curtin, and I look forward to bringing back learnings into my daily studies, work and volunteering.

Patrick Catambay

Student Professional Development Grant recipient
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) & Bachelor of Commerce (Finance)

“I’m very grateful to be where I am in this early stage of my career and I think it would a mistake not to acknowledge the impact of my time here at Curtin has had in shaping it.

I get to live my dreams doing something with tangible social value and work toward the better care and stewardship of our environment.”
