Ms Vicki Robinson

Vicki was appointed Executive General Manager, Company Secretariat in March 2020 and is the Company Secretary of Wesfarmers. Prior to this, Vicki was General Manager, Legal (Corporate) and has played a key role in many of Wesfarmers’ key merger and acquisition transactions over the years.

Vicki joined Wesfarmers in July 2003 as a Legal Counsel with the Corporate Solicitors Office. In 2007 Vicki moved to the role of General Manager for Engen, and returned to the Corporate Solicitors Office in 2009.

Vicki holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia and was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in 1999.

Vicki chairs the Advisory Board of Curtin University Law School, is a member of the Advisory Council of the Curtin Faculty of Business and Law and the Methodist Ladies College Council, and was a director of the Black Swan State Theatre company from 2009 to 2018.

The Hon Chief Justice Peter Quinlan

Peter Damien Quinlan was appointed to the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 13 August 2018. He was appointed as a Judge of the Court, a Judge of the Court of Appeal and as the Chief Justice of Western Australia.

He was born in Perth on 16 June 1970 and attended John XXIII College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1992 and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) in 1995 from the University of Western Australia.

Chief Justice Quinlan was Professional Assistant to K H Parker AO QC, Solicitor General for Western Australia, from 1993 – 1994, and Judge’s Associate to the Hon Justice Parker, Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1995.

From 1996 to 2001, he was a Legal Officer (and ultimately Assistant Crown Counsel) at the WA Crown Solicitor’s Office before joining the Independent Bar in 2001. He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2010.

The Chief Justice was appointed Solicitor General for Western Australia on 1 July 2016 and served in this role until his appointment to the Bench.
He served as President, WA Bar Association from 2012 to 2015, Board of Governors at the University of Notre Dame from 2008 and Director of the Law Council of Australia from 2012 to 2014.

Mr Kanaga Dharmananda SC

Admitted in 1989 in WA. Kanaga Dharmananda commenced practice as a barrister in January 2006, and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2010. He is also a member of Fountain Court Chambers, with chambers in London, and in Singapore.

Kanaga has a broad commercial litigation and arbitration practice, with emphasis on resources, finance, project, and international matters. He appears and acts in international arbitrations in and outside Australia, having advised on disputes in the energy and resources sector.

Kanaga teaches International Commercial Arbitration at the UWA Law School.
Kanaga was educated at the UWA Law School, Oxford University, and Harvard Law School.

Mr David Eaton

David Eaton was appointed Western Australia’s first Small Business Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) in December 2011. In this dual role, he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SBDC including its dispute resolution service.

The Commissioner also provides advice on policy and regulatory matters impacting on the small business sector, to all tiers of government and in particular to the Western Australian Minister for Small Business.

David has extensive business management experience, both as a small business owner and in senior executive positions in Western Australia and Victoria.

David holds a Masters in Business Administration (UWA), is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of the Curtin Law School Advisory Board.

Dr Michelle Evans-Bonner

Dr Michelle Evans-Bonner was appointed as a Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) on 1 December 2017. She is assigned to the General, Taxation and Commercial, Small Business Taxation, Veterans Appeals, Freedom of Information, Migration and Refugee, and National Disability Insurance Scheme Divisions of the Tribunal.

Prior to her appointment to the AAT, Dr Evans was an Associate Professor at the Curtin Law School at Curtin University. From May 2015 to May 2017 she was the Deputy Head of the Curtin Law School and the Director of Learning and Teaching – Law, Business Law & Taxation.

Dr Evans has a Bachelor of Arts (1995), a Bachelor of Laws (1998), and a Master of Laws (LLM) by research from Murdoch University (2006) in the area of sex discrimination and feminist legal theory. In 2012, Dr Evans was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Curtin University with a Chancellor’s commendation for academic excellence in the area of public law. She is the co-author of the textbook “Administrative Law”, 2nd edition (2015, LexisNexis Butterworths) published in the LexisNexis Study Guide Series, the lead editor of the book, “Global Perspectives on Subsidiarity” (Springer, 2014), and has published numerous scholarly journal articles throughout her career.

Dr Evans was previously a Deputy Chairperson and Community Member of the Prisoners Review Board of Western Australia (2015 to 2018), a Member of the Consumer Advisory Committee established under the Fair Trading Act 2010 (WA) to advise the Western Australian Minister for Commerce (2017 to 2018), and a Community Member of the Regional Appeals Committee at the Department of Housing, Western Australia (2014 to 2015). She holds a current legal practising certificate from the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia.

Ms Jodie Hatherly

Jodie joined Santos in 2019. She is the General Counsel and Company Secretary of the Santos Group and is responsible for Legal, Company Secretariat, Risk, Governance and, Corporate EH and S across the business. Jodie joined Santos from INPEX Australia, where she was General Counsel & General Manager Legal for the Ichthys LNG project and INPEX’s Australia business. Jodie brings to the table a demonstrated history of delivering some of the biggest projects in the oil & gas industry.

Jodie commencing her career in the legal private sector in Australia and the UK, before taking on senior in-house roles in the oil and gas industry.
Jodie also serves on the advisory board of the Curtin University Law School as well as Muscular Dystrophy WA.

Jodie was recognised on The Legal 500 GC Powerlist Australia in 2018.

Ms Jenny Kiss

Jenny Kiss currently holds the position of General Counsel with the Public Transport Authority of WA and was the past President of ACC Australia ACLA (WA division) and a former board member of ACC Australia. The ACC (Association of Corporate Counsel) is a leading international organisation representing in-house lawyers.

She was recently awarded 2018 Senior Woman Lawyer of the year by the Women Lawyers of WA.
As an in house lawyer for more than 30 years Jenny is a General Counsel with extensive practical commercial legal experience, particularly in the public infrastructure, energy and transport industries.

Jenny has previously held a number of board positions and has advised senior management on a diverse range of complex issues in Western Australia, throughout Australia (QLD, Vic, NSW and NT) and overseas. Her experience is quite unique, in both public and private sectors, across a range of industries.

Mr Michael Lishman

Michael is a partner of Jones Day, a global law firm. He was an investment banker with Gresham Partners Limited, a partner of Magic Circle law firm, Clifford Chance, a founding partner of Cochrane Lishman and a partner of Mallesons Stephen Jaques. Michael has undergraduate degrees from the University of Western Australia, a Master of Laws from Melbourne University and completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.

Mr Peter Lorbeer

Peter has been an Associate Counsel for Shell Australia since May 2017, and is currently focused on mergers and acquisitions, equity capital market transactions and corporate governance matters in the Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Peter has acquired diverse experience in the petroleum and LNG business in Australia, New Zealand, China, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. He completed postings with Shell in Melbourne, Perth, Beijing and The Hague before returning to Perth in 2008 to take up the role of Managing Counsel. In 2011, Peter was appointed as Shell Australia’s Head of Legal, with responsibility for the provision of legal advice on all matters affecting Shell’s upstream business in Australia.

Prior to joining Shell, Peter worked at Herbert Smith Freehills in Melbourne for 4 years.

Peter holds Bachelor of law and commerce degrees from the University of Melbourne and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance from the Securities Institute of Australia.

Ms Elizabeth Macknay

Liz is a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills. She is the section head of the Perth Disputes team, and leads the Corporate Crime & Investigations, Contentious Regulatory and International Arbitration teams in Perth.

Liz is a director of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, the Regional Representative Asia Pacific, IBA Anti-Corruption Committee and a Regional Council member of Redkite.

Ms Rachael Munro

Rachael is a partner in PwC Perth’s Tax Controversy group. Rachael is a legal practitioner admitted in the WA Supreme Court and High Court of Australia and has more than 17 years’ experience in providing tax and legal advice. Specialising in dispute prevention and resolution, Rachael has experience in advising clients in relation to the tax implications of transactions, ATO enquiries and audits, the preparation of tax objections and tax litigation. Rachael is also experienced in dealing with the preparation of voluntary disclosures to the ATO and assist clients in the resolution of difficult matters.

Specialising in transaction taxes and dispute prevention, Rachael has extensive experience in advising clients in relation to stamp duty planning and documentary review of a range of transactions (including mergers and acquisitions, listed takeovers and initial public offerings).

Professor Robert Cunningham

Professor Robert Cunningham is Dean and Head of Curtin Law School, barrister within Murray Chambers and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.

Throughout his professional career, he has engaged with the law in his capacity as both legal practitioner and academic.

As a legal practitioner Robert’s efforts have concentrated on the provision of legal information, court advocacy and education within Community Legal Centres and the not-for-profit sector. In his barrister practise within Murray Chambers he specialises in Federal Court matters with a particular emphasis on corporate law, consumer law, native title and intellectual property. He also works in international trade law. As part of his active interest in public interest advocacy, he provides legal advice and court advocacy to not-for-profit organisations.

In academia Robert’s pursuits have primarily focused on the manner in which the law interfaces with international trade, sustainability, corporate governance and information governance. He has published numerous academic journal articles and books, as both sole-author and co-author, primarily in the fields of corporate law, intellectual property and international trade law.

Professor Dale Pinto

Dale is currently Professor of Taxation Law in the Curtin Law School as well as being the Chair of the Academic Board at Curtin University. Dale is the author and co-author of numerous books, refereed articles and national and international conference papers and sits on the editorial board of a number of peer-reviewed journals as well as being the Editor-in-Chief of several refereed journals.

He is a Fellow of CPA Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law as well as being a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Adviser and Honorary Life Member of the Tax Institute. He is also a Life Member of the Australasian Tax Teachers Association and the Australasian Law Teachers Association.

Dale has been a registered tax agent for more than 25 years and was appointed by the Assistant Treasurer as one of the inaugural members of the National Tax Practitioners Board. He is a current member of the Board of Taxation’s Special Advisory Panel and the ATO’s Tax Technical Panel as well as a Board Member of CPA Australia and a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Economic Development Forum in WA.

Dale is a member of the Tertiary Education and Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA) Expert Panel in Accounting, Taxation and International Education.

Ms Harley Gardiner

Harley is a Law and International Relations Student at Curtin University, having commenced her studies in 2018. In her first year, Harley was elected as a First Year Representative for the Curtin Student Law Society (CSLS) and has been a member of the CSLS committee in various roles since, having been elected as President in 2020. Outside of university, Harley works as an electorate officer for the Hon Christian Porter MP, Federal Member for Pearce, and as a Law Clerk in a boutique commercial law and taxation firm. Throughout her degree, Harley has also volunteered her time as a paralegal at the Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA), and as a Junior Editor for the Western Australian Student Law Review. Upon completing her law degree in 2022, Harley aspires to receive a graduate role at a commercial law firm.

Ms Tiffany Jiang

Tiffany graduated from Curtin University with a Double Degree in Law and Commerce majoring in Accounting in 2018. She has since worked in a corporate and legal in-house role at a building technology company and has most recently joined King & Wood Mallesons as a law graduate in construction disputes.

In 2020, Tiffany became the founding President of the Curtin Law Alumni Society (CLAS) with the view to help graduates transition into the workforce and ensure that alumni have a platform to remain connected throughout their career.

Ms Belinda Murray

Ms Murray is a Non-Executive Director of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, and Parkerville Children and Youth Care (Inc).

Ms Murray was General Counsel of BGC (Australia) Pty Ltd and held various board, company secretary and executive roles with BGC for 12 years until 2021. Ms Murray has extensive experience in a variety of sectors including resources, manufacturing, civil and commercial construction, development, transport and property.

Prior to working with BGC, Ms Murray was a lawyer with the international law firm King & Wood Mallesons for 10 years. Ms Murray commenced her legal career in 1997 at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and was then legal counsel at the Crown Solicitor’s Office.

Belinda holds a Bachelor of Law (Hons) and an Arts Degree from the University of Western Australia.

Associate Professor Narrelle Morris

Dr Narrelle Morris is an Associate Professor in the Curtin Law School. She is currently serving as the Deputy Dean/Head of School. She is also the Course Lead (Law).

She was a Research Fellow in the Asia Pacific Centre for Military Law at the Melbourne Law School from 2009-13, where she was the principal legal researcher on the Australia Research Council-funded Linkage project Australia’s Post-World War II War Crimes Trials of the Japanese: A Systematic and Comprehensive Law Reports Series. This project is supported by the Australian War Memorial and Defence Legal and aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic examination and analysis of the Australian war crimes trials of the Japanese in the post-World War II period.

Her current research project, funded by an Australia Research Council DECRA Award in December 2013, is on the Australian war crimes investigator and jurist Sir William Flood Webb.

Her book Japan-bashing: Anti-Japanism since the 1980s was published by Routledge in 2010. She is also a co-editor and contributing author to Georgina Fitzpatrick, Timothy McCormack and Narrelle Morris (eds), Australia’s War Crimes Trials 1945-51 (Brill Nijhoff, 2016). Australia’s War Crimes Trials 1945-51 was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Prize in Australian History in 2017.

Her most recent research book is Japanese War Crimes in the Pacific: Australia’s Investigations and Prosecutions, Canberra: National Archives of Australia, 2019, https://www.naa.gov.au/help-your-research/research-guides/japanese-war-crimes-pacific-australias-investigations-and-prosecutions.

She is also the author with Rosaline Tan of Clear and Precise Writing Skills for Today’s Lawyer (Thomson Reuters, 4th ed, 2021).

Liz is a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills. She is the section head of the Perth Disputes team, and leads the Corporate Crime & Investigations, Contentious Regulatory and International Arbitration teams in Perth.

Liz is a director of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, the Regional Representative Asia Pacific, IBA Anti-Corruption Committee and a Regional Council member of Redkite.

Ms Rachael Munro

Rachael is a partner in PwC Perth’s Tax Controversy group. Rachael is a legal practitioner admitted in the WA Supreme Court and High Court of Australia and has more than 17 years’ experience in providing tax and legal advice. Specialising in dispute prevention and resolution, Rachael has experience in advising clients in relation to the tax implications of transactions, ATO enquiries and audits, the preparation of tax objections and tax litigation. Rachael is also experienced in dealing with the preparation of voluntary disclosures to the ATO and assist clients in the resolution of difficult matters.

Specialising in transaction taxes and dispute prevention, Rachael has extensive experience in advising clients in relation to stamp duty planning and documentary review of a range of transactions (including mergers and acquisitions, listed takeovers and initial public offerings).

Professor Robert Cunningham

Professor Robert Cunningham is Dean and Head of Curtin Law School, barrister within Murray Chambers and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.

Throughout his professional career, he has engaged with the law in his capacity as both legal practitioner and academic.

As a legal practitioner Robert’s efforts have concentrated on the provision of legal information, court advocacy and education within Community Legal Centres and the not-for-profit sector. In his barrister practise within Murray Chambers he specialises in Federal Court matters with a particular emphasis on corporate law, consumer law, native title and intellectual property. He also works in international trade law. As part of his active interest in public interest advocacy, he provides legal advice and court advocacy to not-for-profit organisations.

In academia Robert’s pursuits have primarily focused on the manner in which the law interfaces with international trade, sustainability, corporate governance and information governance. He has published numerous academic journal articles and books, as both sole-author and co-author, primarily in the fields of corporate law, intellectual property and international trade law.

Professor Dale Pinto

Dale is currently Professor of Taxation Law in the Curtin Law School as well as being the Chair of the Academic Board at Curtin University. Dale is the author and co-author of numerous books, refereed articles and national and international conference papers and sits on the editorial board of a number of peer-reviewed journals as well as being the Editor-in-Chief of several refereed journals.

He is a Fellow of CPA Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law as well as being a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Adviser and Honorary Life Member of the Tax Institute. He is also a Life Member of the Australasian Tax Teachers Association and the Australasian Law Teachers Association.

Dale has been a registered tax agent for more than 25 years and was appointed by the Assistant Treasurer as one of the inaugural members of the National Tax Practitioners Board. He is a current member of the Board of Taxation’s Special Advisory Panel and the ATO’s Tax Technical Panel as well as a Board Member of CPA Australia and a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Economic Development Forum in WA.

Dale is a member of the Tertiary Education and Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA) Expert Panel in Accounting, Taxation and International Education.

Ms Harley Gardiner

Harley is a Law and International Relations Student at Curtin University, having commenced her studies in 2018. In her first year, Harley was elected as a First Year Representative for the Curtin Student Law Society (CSLS) and has been a member of the CSLS committee in various roles since, having been elected as President in 2020. Outside of university, Harley works as an electorate officer for the Hon Christian Porter MP, Federal Member for Pearce, and as a Law Clerk in a boutique commercial law and taxation firm. Throughout her degree, Harley has also volunteered her time as a paralegal at the Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA), and as a Junior Editor for the Western Australian Student Law Review. Upon completing her law degree in 2022, Harley aspires to receive a graduate role at a commercial law firm.

Ms Tiffany Jiang

Tiffany graduated from Curtin University with a Double Degree in Law and Commerce majoring in Accounting in 2018. She has since worked in a corporate and legal in-house role at a building technology company and has most recently joined King & Wood Mallesons as a law graduate in construction disputes.

In 2020, Tiffany became the founding President of the Curtin Law Alumni Society (CLAS) with the view to help graduates transition into the workforce and ensure that alumni have a platform to remain connected throughout their career.

Ms Belinda Murray

Ms Murray is a Non-Executive Director of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, and Parkerville Children and Youth Care (Inc).

Ms Murray was General Counsel of BGC (Australia) Pty Ltd and held various board, company secretary and executive roles with BGC for 12 years until 2021. Ms Murray has extensive experience in a variety of sectors including resources, manufacturing, civil and commercial construction, development, transport and property.

Prior to working with BGC, Ms Murray was a lawyer with the international law firm King & Wood Mallesons for 10 years. Ms Murray commenced her legal career in 1997 at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and was then legal counsel at the Crown Solicitor’s Office.

Belinda holds a Bachelor of Law (Hons) and an Arts Degree from the University of Western Australia.

Associate Professor Narrelle Morris

Dr Narrelle Morris is an Associate Professor in the Curtin Law School. She is currently serving as the Deputy Dean/Head of School. She is also the Course Lead (Law).

She was a Research Fellow in the Asia Pacific Centre for Military Law at the Melbourne Law School from 2009-13, where she was the principal legal researcher on the Australia Research Council-funded Linkage project Australia’s Post-World War II War Crimes Trials of the Japanese: A Systematic and Comprehensive Law Reports Series. This project is supported by the Australian War Memorial and Defence Legal and aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic examination and analysis of the Australian war crimes trials of the Japanese in the post-World War II period.

Her current research project, funded by an Australia Research Council DECRA Award in December 2013, is on the Australian war crimes investigator and jurist Sir William Flood Webb.

Her book Japan-bashing: Anti-Japanism since the 1980s was published by Routledge in 2010. She is also a co-editor and contributing author to Georgina Fitzpatrick, Timothy McCormack and Narrelle Morris (eds), Australia’s War Crimes Trials 1945-51 (Brill Nijhoff, 2016). Australia’s War Crimes Trials 1945-51 was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Prize in Australian History in 2017.
